Microsoft project 2016 crashes when a recurring task is added

Recommended Posts

Really? REALLY!?
It sits there with full 100% utilisation on a single core and the 'not responding' message.

Any ideas on a workaround for the lousy untested piece of ###### to just add a single damn recurring task?

EDIT: Here's a picture of this untested joke of a piece of software:

32 bit, open project 2016, create a blank document, add a repeating task, give it a name select monday click OK and watch as it eats up your CPU.

EDIT: I would create a gif using VLC but it crashes whenever I try to convert desktop to a video file, and the windows 10 screen recorder doesn't support my GPU, great...

EDIT 2: I've tried opening a project 2013 file with a repeating task and it opens fine, I can view it and expand the repeating task fine even view it's properties, but if the properties are opened I need to click cancel, if I click OK I get the same lockup issue.

Can't even save to a ######## PDF, apparently that's too hard for project 2016! Just creates a 2KB file and moans that the printer cannot start (I'm not printing - I'm saving), invalid PDF contents:

Haha yeah I can replicate. Doesn't eat up my CPU, but it does hang.

I did do an upgrade for the existing 2013 suite installed, did you do the same?

You should create a VM, fresh install and see if it happens. I CBF'd.

I upgraded from office 2013 to office 2016 but didn't have project 2013 installed, then installed project 2016 on top of that. I didn't actually want to upgrade office 2013 but when you open the installer of project 2016 it gives you the option to install project 2016 and thus completely remove office 2013 from your PC or cancel the install... :s

I managed to create the task on another PC (not mine) using project 2013, save it and I can open the file fine with 2016 just can't do anything with that event, even opening the properties makes it hang.

Your global.mpt file might be corrupted or in a read-only folder. Try uninstalling Project completely then deleting the folder in Program Files before reinstalling it.

You seem to be having a lot of issues with your PC that others haven't reported so it's possible something is wrong on your end. It's difficult to assess problems when you don't provide any information as to what you have tried to resolve them already.
