game_over
I know Microsoft was giving it away for free at some point, I'm guessing i'm too late to the party? Are there any cheap ways to grab it currently, what is the cheapest method? I once bought a Windows 8 licence off eBay and several months later it was marked as counterfeit Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1282924-cheapest-way-to-get-windows-10/ Share on other sites

Jim K Global Moderator Posted December 23, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted December 23, 2015 Free if you have a valid 7 or 8x license. game_over
Sorry I should have pointed out I do not have a Windows licence currently. Would it be cheaper to buy Windows 7 then go to 10 for free? Jim K Global Moderator Posted December 23, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted December 23, 2015 Probably best to just get 10. Avoid shady prices ... if it seems too good to be true than it probably is (as you found out with your eBay purchase). http://www.amazon.co.uk/ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1282924-cheapest-way-to-get-windows-10/#findComment-597200500 Share on other sites
I am Redbeard
I just built a new rig and am sticking with 7 for now. I was considering going straight to 10 but, feel free to call me a skeptic, I'd prefer to hold off til the last minute for a free upgrade (or purchase (either 7 or 8) and upgrade) just to let more potential flaws to be fleshed out you know? New software has a certain appeal but there are also certain drawbacks. You can use it to install Windows 10 Home; all you would need is the installation ISO. Barney T. Administrators Posted December 24, 2015 Administrators Share Posted December 24, 2015 Please do not post sites that violate Microsoft's licensing terms or sell pirated or illegal software. Windows 10 (or other Windows products) are only legitimately sold by Microsoft or its designated retail outlets. remco8264
You could also use the Enterprise Evaluation version. Only downside is that you will need to reinstall Windows once in a while. I believe the evaluation can be rearmed once, so you could use it for 180 days. Naturally, Microsoft sued them, but to no avail. The conclusion of the whole trial was that if you purchase a license and have not yet activated it, you're free to sell it as you please. Kinda like when you buy a PC game, don't open it and end up selling it to someone else. Darrian
I have 4 more keys to give away, if anybody wants them. First come, first serve. I will respond in the order I receive the PMs. Remember, this is a Windows 7 Home Basic key. You need a Windows 7 Home Basic or a Windows 10 Home ISO to install it (and if you start with Windows 10 you need the latest ISO; a RTM (10240) ISO will not take an upgrade key. If you are already running some version of Windows you should be able to use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool to download the ISO. I will be busy the next couple of days since it is Christmas, so I may not respond immediately. Salty Wagyu
I bought a Windows 7 key from ebay for £15, worked fine for a Windows 10 clean install, activated and digital entitlement. I don't have anything to be concerned about do I? Darrian
Now that you have digital entitlement you should be good. You won't need to use your key for future installations. (https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISO) I've done the upgrade from Win 7 Home Basic but having some issues with Boot Camp so i'd like to try a clean Win 10 install, i just can't figure out which ISO I need. The only downside is that most builds have a watermark on the bottom-right corner unless it's an officially released build to all Windows 10. Install the Insider and set to Slow Ring, and you're good to go. And if a new build causes problems, then you can always revert pretty quickly.
