Two step authentication app for Hotmail (and others)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just recently switched back to iPhone from windows phone. Main reason for swapping back was mainly due to the fact that I felt let down by Microsoft, that rather than release a new flagship phone that I could replace my reliable 1020 with, they were more interested in flooding the market with cheap handsets and whilst I tried not to let the lack of apps affect my decision, I cant just ignore how despite making it possible to convert an app from IOS to windows with the new visual studio enhancements, there is just no interest in developing apps for the platform. I know a new premium flagship premium surface phone could be on the way, but as I was due an upgrade so I decided to see how iPhone / IOS has improved and I've been impressed so far.

Anyway, my main question, I'm readjusting to IOS, and whilst I'm not interested in pulling Hotmail to my phone, I did on windows phone have the Microsoft two step authentication app for my Hotmail accounts. Obviously this isn't available for IOS so what is the recommended app on IOS that can do Hotmail 2 step authentication ? id rather not use google authenticator due to the low score reviews it appears to have.

If anyone can share their experience id appreciate it.

Thanks !

2FA is very much supported on the native iOS mail app for hotmail/live.  What you do is log into your hotmail/live account and go into your security settings page.  There is a section for mobile devices and one time-use passwords.  Generate a password to be used for a mobile device.  Then when you setup your hotmail/live account on your iOS device, instead of using your actual login password for your hotmail/live account you will use that one time-use password that you just generated.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for responding. Im not looking to login to or use Hotmail on my phone, what im looking to do is login via a desktop pc using two step authentication. But to do that I need a code generated by an app similar to how the Microsoft authenticator app works on windows phone.

Thanks

the google authenticator app works on IOS,and is in the app store,  it can be used with hotmail/outlook same as the microsoft app can be used with google on windows phone.

both can and do work with many other 2 factor sites. even EA offers it now. :o
