Program to use Google voice on the PC?

Is there a program that would allow the use of Google Voice on the PC standalone, not tied into the browser? I was thinking of something that would allow text messaging to and from GV, without the need of having the browser open all the time. When I google this question all I get is a add-on for Chrome.

There is no app for that but you may want to do this:

 

1) Set http://google.com/voice as homepage in your browser.

2a) Add your 'browser' shortcut in the 'startup' folder, which the browser will be opened when Windows boots up... or

2b) Add shortcut on the taskbar or create a tile on your start screen if you don't want startup.

3) Log in.

4) Close it when done for the day.

 

If you prefer Hangouts, then replace the URL above with Hangouts URL.

 

 

Note: GV apps can be used on the phones. You may use the 3rd party apps on tablet, there is no native app for tablet...

 

Hangouts app is available for phones and tablets.
