Solid Knight
I have an Windows 2008 SBS Server where a DFS Namespace was created (Domain-based in Windows 2000 Server mode). Since then, three additional Namespace servers have been added. No data replicates to the original server any more. I want to decommission the server, so do I only need select "Remove DFS Namespace Server" in DFS Management or is it more involved? I noticed it's the only Namespace server that has \\mydomain.tld\dfsrootshare actually shared. The other servers are Windows 2012 R2 and do not--they only have the targets shared. Solid Knight
To answer my own question: upon further research it would seem that a domain-based DFS Namespace is housed in Active Directory thus allowing you to add and remove DFS Namespace Servers without doing anything special as long as you have another Namespace Server belonging to that Namespace. So, right-click and delete. Done.
