First time PC Build: Need guidance

Recommended Posts

So I've decided to build my own computer - I've got experience but it has been years since I've built my last computer so I'd love to hear feedback regarding my part choice:

I've love to hear feedback - it appears to be a middle of the road balance of parts but what does everyone else think?

I would strongly suggest you upgrade the Power Supply to something more than 550w, a minimum of 700w. Personally, I don't build a system without a Optical Drive, but that's because I'm still old school and burn discs.

It looks good, a little on the pricey edge for a first build, imo.

Personal preference is to switch video cards to NVidia, but like I said that's a personal preference.

I took the plunge with my latest build to eschew optical drives.  While I do own a USB blueray burner, I've used it once.  Liberate yourself ;)

Eh, It depends on how many SATA Ports I have. But I do feel ya.

Keep in mind that the price is in NZ$ and includes GST of 15%.

I was a little worried about the power supply thinking that 550w was ok but I'll up the power supply to 750w.

I'll keep the video card the same because it is around the middle of the road although I might look at nVidia options primarily because of the drivers but then again the AMD drivers are looking OK these days.

I've got a USB DVD burner/writer but I rarely use it - only for the rare occasion given that all my stuff is downloaded, music is backed up in FLAC format on my Drobo 5D.

That's fine. Wait and see what others say, I've personally been running into problems with PSUs. I have a 650w that's powering older gear, and it started having problems. I popped my 1200w I just got back from an RMA 6 months ago, and I have zero problems.

Here's my future build;

I've got a few more network gear pieces to buy, and a new ESXi Server, after that I'm building this bad boy. I'll start with 1 monitor that's 4K, and my other two, and gradually cycle them out until I have 3 - 4 4K monitors and dual video cards.
