Amazon Kindle Problems

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

My wife gave me her first edition kindle (the white one, with the keyboard and free 3G internet) so that I can replace my broken Kindle Fire HD.  I know there's nothing special about this device... and literally all I even used my Fire HD for was to read books.  I'm happy with the old device, and I don't really want to spend money upgrading to a new one.

Here's my issue... I can't load any books to it... with the exception of about two in my entire library.  Amazon's "Manage my Content and Devices" page tells me that my Kindle isn't compatible.  I know this can't be the issue... The majority of these books were on this kindle when my wife was using it.  I contacted Amazon support last week, and they told me the books needed "Updating" before I could transfer them... so they "updated" my books (and my wife's books - we have a household Prime account, so I can see her books too...).  They then proceeded to load a few titles for me.  Today... I went to go add some more titles to my Kindle... and I'm getting the same "not compatible" message... and what makes it even worse is that the books Amazon loaded for me last week ALSO say not compatible.  How are they not compatible with my kindle... if they're on it?

Is there any way for me to get these books on my Kindle without having Amazon load them for me?

There is - but you need an intermediary - such as a PC.

I had a similar issue - except that a Fire (current-gen) was the target, and my PC was the source.

Fortunately, I had already semi-jailbroken the tablet so I could add the Google Play Store to it - all I needed to do was look for he proper target on the FIre tablet (/Import/Books) and drag and drop the imported volumes there (Windows 7 or later).  It should be just as feasible with a Mac or other OS.

That's actually strange as I have a Kindle Keyboard (Kindle 3G) and never seen that before, sure the firmware is fully up-to-date?

This. If it has an OS version on it from before the SSL exploit it has to be updated manually. Here's the page for the manual updates: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=202048000

EDIT: I'm guessing the OP doesn't need this info anymore though... 2016 :/

    • (macOS) Screen zoom was broken for me in beta 1 and it's now working properly in beta 2. In terms of performance and UI design/consistency, these betas are already much better than Tahoe.
