We have 4 Windows XP computers (2 desktops and 2 laptops), 1 Windows 98 (desktop) and 1 PowerBook G4 with panther installed in our house. Every of them connects to the internet via different ISP. I'm wondering in any means, if there's any way I can connect them all (or maybe some) and setup and home network?

All cable cept one ADSL (the powerbook)

btw, 2 Win XP and the Win 98 desktop share the same ISP.

hmm here's the list:

Laptop | XP SP2 => Cable 1

Desktop | XP SP1 => Cable 2

Desktop | XP => Cable 3

Desktop | XP SP1 => Cable 3

Desktop | 98 => Cable 3

PB | Panther => ADSL

4 different accounts :/

The easiest way is to get yourself a Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

Choose 1 ISP either cable or DSL. Cancel 3 others and share your net access across the other 3 computers using 1 ISP / Account.

This also will create a Home Network.

I recommend a Wireless version because you have 2 laptops. Don't you think it would be really nice to let your laptops be wireless and on broadband?

What about the desktops?

Well all Wireless Cable/DSL Routers include a 4-Port Wired Switch which you can hook up the desktops directly to the switch or you can also go wireless via them if you choose too via USB or PCI Wireless Cards.

The amount of money you'll be saving is way more than the cost of the router and wireless access cards for the laptops if you choose to go wirelessly. If you decide to go wired well like I said you get a 4 Port wired switch on these routers.

the 3 desktops connected together share one line using a router, but like i said, we have to have different isp to meet everyone's need

Those three desktops already are part of a network, whats the problem?

every computer is on different floors and different rooms. it's gonna be so hard to connect via wired network. and the 3 computers are connected through wire that were set up in the wall!:s:s

Then like i said already, get a wireless one.

Did you even read my post?

Here i'll quote it so you can read it again.

Yes. We pay our internet. (different people pay for their own internet services!) and because some people choose to use high speed, some choose to use lite speed and some have residential accounts while some have business accounts

more bandwidth, faster speed. and the others just don't need those and they wouldn't wanna pay so much money for a buiness account, eg, i pay 70 bucks for the internet every month but my friends pay 10 each (they share) and the guy who use ADSL choose to pay 40 and another friend pays 20 bucks

Then why not get 1 business accoutn if its "so much faster" and share it.:laugh:h:

anyway a hub or a switch will do what you want.

But everyone in your home is really foolish. You're all wasting money and not being real logical about the situation.

You know, I was going to come in here and do a "Google it n00b" image or something like that. But damn man, that's a crazy setup you got there.?:pp

Good luck with that.

and we will probably have a new ibook or imac and a new G5 soon://

@ xStainDx: we're not a family. just some friends who share a house. so it's hard to *share* the same account. some people wouldn't wanna pay more than 10 bucks for the internet and some people, like me, need more bandwidth and residential solutions just don't offer enough bandwidth, 5GB/month to 10GB/month://

I'm confused. Why have everyone pay for different accounts, when you could just have ONE fast line, and just split the payment up. Say it costs you even $80 a month, if there's 4 of you, that's $20 for each. I'm guessing that's even cheaper than any of you are paying for different ISP's. More efficient. Then everyone makes out with a fast line. :blink:

    • Yeah what can you expect in the first 4 years?? Where on your body is the Zune tattoo?
    • Microsoft still tries really hard to convince people about Windows 11. It does not realize, the harder it tries the more people hate it. And it is not people's fault. It is MS that tries violently to own your computing environment without your consent. Cheers MS!

    • Edge 138 is out with AI-powered history search and other changes by Taras Buria Microsoft has released Edge 138, the latest major update for the browser. Version 138.0.3351.55 introduces some interesting changes and new features, such as AI-powered history search. There are also several bug fixes and security patches. For regular users, the biggest and most important change in Edge 138 is AI-powered history search. This feature allows you to find sites in your history using synonyms, phrases, or misspelled words. Microsoft uses an on-device model, which does not send your data anywhere. Note that this feature is rolling out gradually, which means it might take a few days or weeks to show up on your system. Another useful change is new performance notifications. Performance and Extensions Detector notifications may appear in the main menu when the browser detects performance dips to help users learn about available performance-optimization tools. Autofill settings received a new consent toggle, which allows Microsoft to improve the autofill capabilities by collecting field names as you browse. This only applies to field names, such as "First Name, "Email," etc. It does not send the data you enter or autofill to Microsoft. Other changes include the following: Use the Primary work profile as the default profile to open external links. With this feature, for Windows, Edge checks if the Primary Work Profile exists and makes it the default profile for opening external links if available. Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat Summarization in Microsoft Edge Context Menu. This feature helps users quickly unpack and ask questions about their open page. Copilot on the Microsoft Edge New Tab Page (NTP). Users may see suggested work and productivity-related Copilot prompts in their search box on the NTP page. Adding support for viewing Sensitivity labels applied to a Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) Protected PDF. Enterprise customers can view sensitivity labels applied to MIP protected PDF to be well informed of the data classification to enable them to handle such sensitive documents. And here is what was fixed: Fixed an issue that caused WebDriver automation to fail in Microsoft Edge versions 133 and later. Fixed an issue where re-enabled textarea elements remained non-editable. This issue affected activating a role assignment in Privileged Identity Management. Finally, Edge 138 patches six security vulnerabilities, three of which were Microsoft Edge-specific, and the remaining three originated from Chromium. You can find details about those fixes here. The next Microsoft Edge update, version 139, is expected in the week of August 7, 2025.
