QWell not meant to be a flame, I'm just curious as to why emulate the Mac OS?

you're obviously a troll, but did the thought that people might actually like how it looks ever enter your mind?

nice comparisons, TD. just curious about the scrollbar, you gradient just inside the arrow doesn't seem to be as dark enough, or is that just me?

@msbmsn:

If you don't believe that the fonts are 100% accurate, I can only say that you probably do not know how to install the supplied fonts, or have not been a designer very long.

You just proved my point for me, TD; if you look at the fonts on TD4.0, they're a lot more serif ("curly") than the fonts used on in 10.3 Panther. Just look at the save button, for instance.

Sorry TD, but even 5 pixel difference is too different for me. As to me "not knowing how to install the fonts properly," I've been playing around trying to find an accurate Mac font for nearly 3 years now, and the closest match for any font used on the Mac that I've been able to obtain is Myriad Pro, which is included in Adobe Font Folio 9, which I purchased.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, I've been doing graphic design for nearly 4 years now.

@Brochaos:

Thanks man.

As for the scrollbar. I accidentally took that screenie of an Internet explorer window. As most themers know all themes have artifacting on IE rounded scrollbars, KoL's does too.

As you can see TD4.0 doesn't!

The tradeoff is that I.e. scrollshafts are linear, not curved.

Normal explorer and other window scrollshafts look just like the one below it (KoL's), i.e. normal.

@msbmsn:

Yes, Myriad pro does look very good in Word, but when you apply it to a taskband it looks horrible.

Look at all the ob themes out there, the fonts look spot on. But transfer them to an XP msstyle toolbar and they look nothing like what they do in OB.

Ofcourse there are fonts out there that are a better match for taskband (Lucida Sans EF Roman). I don't know about you but I have problems with the legality of distributing a $39.99 font with my theme.

With the current fonts that are out there, and after 4 months of tweaking shadowing settings, this is the closest that the fonts that are out there can be made to resemble OSX fonts. Any one that looks at the comparison image I posted on the previous page will see that.

If you look at the captionbar font for instance you will see that there is (to all intents and purposes) no difference between TD 4.0 and Mac.

If you think that you could do better, I heartily! welcome you to put your money where your mouth is.

You have been doing graphic design for nearly 4 years now? That is very good msbmsn.

I have been doing graphic design since 1995, and have been skinning windows for the past 4.

yeesh..lots of hype...nice skin and all...I'm using it right now...but it is just a skin. Emulating a mac to the nth degree does not impress me. I certainly prefer Kols ver. as he has removed some 'imperfections' from the original mac OS....yes believe it or not..original OS's aren't perfect.

Three Drives I guess I was trying to express an old opinion of mine ...trying to point out the fact that the glaringly obvious sizing margin problem with the scroll bars (and damn I don't want to argue this..thats been done before to no avail) was addressed by Kol in his ver...notice the smooth bead...but mmmm...you've done a nice job with the fonts in yours though. cheers to that! and no offence intended.

Another thing.... why buy a PC and make it look like a Mac? If they are so great, BUY A MAC!!!

Well, for myself, I simply like the look of it. Actually, I switch my XP themes around maybe once a month; from minimal, to Mac-ish, to Windows Classic...whatever I'm in the mood for. I also refuse to pay the money a new Mac costs, and would prefer to use that money toward building my own PC for a fraction of the cost. My mission isn't to recreate a Mac on my PC, but rather give myself a nice, pleasant presentation for the time I spend on my computer.

And last but not least, fellas such as Three Drives, KoL, Bant, etc. put alot of their own time into doing what they like to do best. I cannot do one tiny bit of skinning and I have ZERO artistic ability, so I admire and respect their talents. It's obviously not easy being an artist in any arena (music, painting, author, etc.) because more often than not, someone will not like your work. I, as I'm sure others feel the same way, would like for my talents and my abilities to be admired and respected by those who cannot or do not do what I do (when someone acknowledges my skills in Respiratory Care or knowledge of certain medical issues/situations, it makes me feel good).

I also understand constructive criticism can be very good. Alot can be learned from other people in a constructive, positive manner. If there's a problem someone has with a visual style, for example, simply point it out and let the author know so he can improve on his work. But don't question the reasoning behind what he/she does. It's not up to you, or me, or anyone else.

I'm going to throw in 5 more cents! :crazy:

This is an awesome "interpretation"... "port" ... whatever you would like to call it!

The whole team have done a wonderful job, and I thank TD 4.0 for doing it. I suggested on "another site" late last year... "how about a few people get together, and make something really good"... all I got was NEGATIVE comments... "it can never be done"...... well this shows it can be done.

I'm tired of hearing... "it looks just like every other MAC THEME.... WELL WAKE UP...... IT IS A MAC THEME.... and a wonderful one at that.

Again, all involved, magnificent effort, and it's the first theme that I've actually thought... "hmmm I could live with this for a while", colors are great, fonts are great, etc.... and for those concerned about being "5 pixels out" and "serifs" on fonts, I've been a typographer for 20 years, and this theme works for me in the real world, it is a real pleasure to use

My only suggestion is that those involved in this wonderful creation, get together, use your wonderful talents and create something that you can call your own!... now that would be worth its weight in gold!

:unsure:

TD (and many other people) have made a lot of effort to make this a very, very accurate port. I doubt that without the screenshot TD posted anyone would have noticed. Its the little details that take all the effort!

So please, appreciate the effort people put in to give YOU the themes, without the troll-like comments. If it wasn't for these people who provided you with themes, you'd either be using Classic, Luna, or making your own.

Regarding the 'Buy a MAC' comment - as bant said - this is oooooooold. People already have PC's that function exactly how they like, but prefer the look of OSX to windows (can you blame them? the orignal Luna sucks).

Thanks TD et al. (Y)

:)

Yeah, there's a nice theme by Max Rudberg called Mac OS XP, which adds luna-style appearance to OSX 10.1 and up. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I've seen screenshots and it doesn't look that bad, if you're a fan of the Luna look.

:: grins at KoL ::

@TD, I'm really not trying to bash you or your work, I just don't think it's fair that you held out on the entire community, drumming TD 4.0 up into something it really shouldn't have been. As well as the previous inconsistencies that I mentioned, there's no icon pack, no ObjectDock background, no WindowFX Shadow preset, no OS X User Pictures (something I'm STILL looking for - too lazy to extract it from Panther myself), and various other things that would have justified the hype that TD 4.0 was given...

Just my 50 pence.

Thanks DeanoBear63 and b0se,... people like you are what makes this work worthwhile.

@msbmsn:

I thought including;

all required fonts,

3 wallpapers,

a preview image,

the shellstyle,

the y'z dock background (which a child could convert to an OD background)

the y'z toolbar theme

the entire y'z shadow 1.09 app

Would have been enough.

I do apologise that that wasn't enough for you.

@msbmsn:

I suggest you try using the OS X Transformation pack which flyakite19 has produced, it's a wonderful collection of dll's, add-ons, etc... you'll see by the screen shot, I haven't had to use IconPackager... or any other StarDock product. I don't know what your system consists of, but I'm slumming it with a P4 3.06ghz, a gig of ram, nVidia 5600 256meg... I like to leave a little system resources for my applications. I like my machine to look pretty, but I also like it to be fast and usable. :whistle:

Three Drives... you have included more in your theme package than most people would have... y'z shadow alone is worth the download :) and again... thanks a lot mate! :D

Hey Three Drives, I want to say this respectfully as possible.

I really like the theme. Especially the borders and buttons.

However, I agree with an earlier post that the Lucida Grande you are using looks a little too "curly." I was wondering, if, in your next release, you could add another option for the font, maybe the same one Iceman used in his Jaguar ports.

Just a request.

Thanks a lot for all of your efforts, Three Drives. I have been following you around from aqua-soft to here waiting for this release, and it's finally here. Thanks!

Important Fixed Windows 10 taskbar and Start menu crashes on builds 26220.8474 (Beta) and 26300.8493 (Experimental). Update ExplorerPatcher as soon as possible. Without this update, Explorer and the Windows 10 Start menu may stop working on future builds. Microsoft removed Windows 10 Start menu components from StartTileData.dll on these builds, so the Windows 10 Start menu option has been removed where it is no longer supported. Temporary workaround: replace C:\Windows\System32\StartTileData.dll with the version from build 26xxx.8457 (x64/ARM64). This may stop working in future builds. Work is ongoing to restore Windows 10 Start menu support. Highlights Fixed Windows 10 battery flyout crashes on build 25951+. Network flyout buttons reverted to pre-24H2 behavior as a side effect. Taskbar location changes now apply instantly. Windows 11 taskbar auto-hide is no longer modified when Explorer starts. "Open Start in All apps by default" is now hidden when using the new Windows 11 Start menu. Fixed Windows 10 Start menu crashes on builds 21996–22000.51. Fixed Regedit crashes when switching to thumbnail view in registry import/export dialogs. Improved compatibility with recent Windows builds, including 26H1 ARM64. Improved ARM64 performance. Added Greek translations. ep_taskbar Now supports all 43 Windows 11 languages. Fixed issues in the system tray and other components. Updated DLL naming scheme for mod developers. Improved TrayUI compatibility and vtable stability on builds with multiple ITrayUI revisions. Fixed a taskbar initialization deadlock. Windows 10 Start Menu Added a new tile layout engine to restore support removed in build 26xxx.8474. Restoration is currently partial: Tiles may overlap when pinned using "Pin to Start". Restarting StartMenuExperienceHost.exe or explorer.exe fixes the layout. Further improvements are planned. Other Changes Added an executable blacklist to prevent shell extensions from loading in selected applications. Updated Windows 10 Start menu animation support for ARM64 builds 28xxx.2149+. • Microsoft: Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 finally stops trusting a critical system threat by Sayan Sen This week Microsoft released the Patch Tuesday updates for June 2026 with KB5094126 on Windows 11 25H2, 24H2, and KB5093998 on Windows 11 23H2. On Windows 10 22H2 it's under KB5094127. Alongside the announced release notes for the new builds, Microsoft has revealed another change that is coming to Windows with these new releases. It has been confirmed that custom folders are getting a significant change with the June 2026 updates as such folders or folder names defined by desktop.ini will no longer appear after this update is successfully installed. While you may inititally think this is a bug with the new release, Microsoft has stated that this is in fact "expected behaviour" in its new support article regarding this which Neowin spotted today while browsing. Essentially it's a security hardening measure such that custom folder presentations are treated as potentially unsafe whenever Windows is not sure about their origin and whether that desktop.ini folder can be trusted or not. Here is list of such untrusted files and folders: Files downloaded from the internet that carry Mark-of-the-Web (MOTW). Files copied from certain remote locations, such as some WebDAV or HTTP-based locations. Files on network paths that are not classified as intranet or trusted by zone policy. For those who may not be familiar, Desktop.ini is a special configuration file used by Windows to customize the appearance and behavior of individual folders. Basically Windows can read specific instructions stored in Desktop.ini instead of displaying every folder with the same default settings. This can be used to apply custom icons, thumbnail images, localized folder names, and such informational tooltips (infotip). The file can also influence certain folder-specific behaviors and properties. It is typically stored as a hidden system file within a folder that has been designated to support Desktop.ini customization. However, because Windows Shell automatically reads and applies these attributes whenever a customized folder is opened, they have historically (since the Windows XP days) presented an attack surface as a result of an unchecked buffer in the Shell component responsible for extracting custom attributes from Desktop.ini files. As such an attacker could create a specially crafted Desktop.ini containing a malicious or corrupted attributes and place it on a network share. So if a user were to browse that folder, Windows would automatically process the file, potentially triggering a buffer overflow. This could allow arbitrary code to run with the same permissions as the logged-in user. Hence a seemingly harmless folder could become a security risk when their contents are not properly validated. For admins and users alike looking to manage this behaviour, Microsoft has shared a few ways. One of them is to assign a trusted mark on the folder in case you are sure of its source. Secondly a policy can be used to revert back to the previous state. Finally, the MOTW can be removed too to indicate to Windows that this is a safe file. The company explains: Option 1: Add the source to Trusted Sites (Recommended) If the affected content is stored on a known internal or managed source, add that source to the Trusted Sites list. Once the source is treated as trusted, Windows processes desktop.ini from that source normally. This keeps the protection in place for other locations and is the lower-risk option. Option 2: Use policy to restore previous behavior Organizations that need broader compatibility can enable the policy Allow the use of remote paths in file shortcut icons.Enabling this policy restores the pre-June 2026 behavior for affected remote or untrusted scenarios. Option 3: Check for and remove the Mark of the Web (MotW) If the desktop.ini file has a Mark of the Web (MotW), Windows may treat it as coming from an untrusted source and block customization. Verify whether MotW is present and, if appropriate, remove it from the desktop.ini file. This can restore expected behavior, but should only be done for trusted content, as it removes the associated security protection. To remove the MotW tag, open PowerShell and run one of the following commands: For a single desktop.ini file: Unblock-File "C:\Your\Folder\Path\desktop.ini" For all desktop.ini files in a folder: Get-ChildItem "C:\Your\Folder\Path" -Recurse -Filter desktop.ini -Force | Unblock-File Microsoft has warned though against using a broad opt-out using the provided policy as it reduces protection against potentially malicious remote folder-customization content. As such the tech giant recommends trusting only controlled internal sources and keeping trust settings as strict as possible. You can check out the official support article here on Microsoft's website.
