QWell not meant to be a flame, I'm just curious as to why emulate the Mac OS?

you're obviously a troll, but did the thought that people might actually like how it looks ever enter your mind?

nice comparisons, TD. just curious about the scrollbar, you gradient just inside the arrow doesn't seem to be as dark enough, or is that just me?

@msbmsn:

If you don't believe that the fonts are 100% accurate, I can only say that you probably do not know how to install the supplied fonts, or have not been a designer very long.

You just proved my point for me, TD; if you look at the fonts on TD4.0, they're a lot more serif ("curly") than the fonts used on in 10.3 Panther. Just look at the save button, for instance.

Sorry TD, but even 5 pixel difference is too different for me. As to me "not knowing how to install the fonts properly," I've been playing around trying to find an accurate Mac font for nearly 3 years now, and the closest match for any font used on the Mac that I've been able to obtain is Myriad Pro, which is included in Adobe Font Folio 9, which I purchased.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, I've been doing graphic design for nearly 4 years now.

@Brochaos:

Thanks man.

As for the scrollbar. I accidentally took that screenie of an Internet explorer window. As most themers know all themes have artifacting on IE rounded scrollbars, KoL's does too.

As you can see TD4.0 doesn't!

The tradeoff is that I.e. scrollshafts are linear, not curved.

Normal explorer and other window scrollshafts look just like the one below it (KoL's), i.e. normal.

@msbmsn:

Yes, Myriad pro does look very good in Word, but when you apply it to a taskband it looks horrible.

Look at all the ob themes out there, the fonts look spot on. But transfer them to an XP msstyle toolbar and they look nothing like what they do in OB.

Ofcourse there are fonts out there that are a better match for taskband (Lucida Sans EF Roman). I don't know about you but I have problems with the legality of distributing a $39.99 font with my theme.

With the current fonts that are out there, and after 4 months of tweaking shadowing settings, this is the closest that the fonts that are out there can be made to resemble OSX fonts. Any one that looks at the comparison image I posted on the previous page will see that.

If you look at the captionbar font for instance you will see that there is (to all intents and purposes) no difference between TD 4.0 and Mac.

If you think that you could do better, I heartily! welcome you to put your money where your mouth is.

You have been doing graphic design for nearly 4 years now? That is very good msbmsn.

I have been doing graphic design since 1995, and have been skinning windows for the past 4.

yeesh..lots of hype...nice skin and all...I'm using it right now...but it is just a skin. Emulating a mac to the nth degree does not impress me. I certainly prefer Kols ver. as he has removed some 'imperfections' from the original mac OS....yes believe it or not..original OS's aren't perfect.

Three Drives I guess I was trying to express an old opinion of mine ...trying to point out the fact that the glaringly obvious sizing margin problem with the scroll bars (and damn I don't want to argue this..thats been done before to no avail) was addressed by Kol in his ver...notice the smooth bead...but mmmm...you've done a nice job with the fonts in yours though. cheers to that! and no offence intended.

Another thing.... why buy a PC and make it look like a Mac? If they are so great, BUY A MAC!!!

Well, for myself, I simply like the look of it. Actually, I switch my XP themes around maybe once a month; from minimal, to Mac-ish, to Windows Classic...whatever I'm in the mood for. I also refuse to pay the money a new Mac costs, and would prefer to use that money toward building my own PC for a fraction of the cost. My mission isn't to recreate a Mac on my PC, but rather give myself a nice, pleasant presentation for the time I spend on my computer.

And last but not least, fellas such as Three Drives, KoL, Bant, etc. put alot of their own time into doing what they like to do best. I cannot do one tiny bit of skinning and I have ZERO artistic ability, so I admire and respect their talents. It's obviously not easy being an artist in any arena (music, painting, author, etc.) because more often than not, someone will not like your work. I, as I'm sure others feel the same way, would like for my talents and my abilities to be admired and respected by those who cannot or do not do what I do (when someone acknowledges my skills in Respiratory Care or knowledge of certain medical issues/situations, it makes me feel good).

I also understand constructive criticism can be very good. Alot can be learned from other people in a constructive, positive manner. If there's a problem someone has with a visual style, for example, simply point it out and let the author know so he can improve on his work. But don't question the reasoning behind what he/she does. It's not up to you, or me, or anyone else.

I'm going to throw in 5 more cents! :crazy:

This is an awesome "interpretation"... "port" ... whatever you would like to call it!

The whole team have done a wonderful job, and I thank TD 4.0 for doing it. I suggested on "another site" late last year... "how about a few people get together, and make something really good"... all I got was NEGATIVE comments... "it can never be done"...... well this shows it can be done.

I'm tired of hearing... "it looks just like every other MAC THEME.... WELL WAKE UP...... IT IS A MAC THEME.... and a wonderful one at that.

Again, all involved, magnificent effort, and it's the first theme that I've actually thought... "hmmm I could live with this for a while", colors are great, fonts are great, etc.... and for those concerned about being "5 pixels out" and "serifs" on fonts, I've been a typographer for 20 years, and this theme works for me in the real world, it is a real pleasure to use

My only suggestion is that those involved in this wonderful creation, get together, use your wonderful talents and create something that you can call your own!... now that would be worth its weight in gold!

:unsure:

TD (and many other people) have made a lot of effort to make this a very, very accurate port. I doubt that without the screenshot TD posted anyone would have noticed. Its the little details that take all the effort!

So please, appreciate the effort people put in to give YOU the themes, without the troll-like comments. If it wasn't for these people who provided you with themes, you'd either be using Classic, Luna, or making your own.

Regarding the 'Buy a MAC' comment - as bant said - this is oooooooold. People already have PC's that function exactly how they like, but prefer the look of OSX to windows (can you blame them? the orignal Luna sucks).

Thanks TD et al. (Y)

:)

Yeah, there's a nice theme by Max Rudberg called Mac OS XP, which adds luna-style appearance to OSX 10.1 and up. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I've seen screenshots and it doesn't look that bad, if you're a fan of the Luna look.

:: grins at KoL ::

@TD, I'm really not trying to bash you or your work, I just don't think it's fair that you held out on the entire community, drumming TD 4.0 up into something it really shouldn't have been. As well as the previous inconsistencies that I mentioned, there's no icon pack, no ObjectDock background, no WindowFX Shadow preset, no OS X User Pictures (something I'm STILL looking for - too lazy to extract it from Panther myself), and various other things that would have justified the hype that TD 4.0 was given...

Just my 50 pence.

Thanks DeanoBear63 and b0se,... people like you are what makes this work worthwhile.

@msbmsn:

I thought including;

all required fonts,

3 wallpapers,

a preview image,

the shellstyle,

the y'z dock background (which a child could convert to an OD background)

the y'z toolbar theme

the entire y'z shadow 1.09 app

Would have been enough.

I do apologise that that wasn't enough for you.

@msbmsn:

I suggest you try using the OS X Transformation pack which flyakite19 has produced, it's a wonderful collection of dll's, add-ons, etc... you'll see by the screen shot, I haven't had to use IconPackager... or any other StarDock product. I don't know what your system consists of, but I'm slumming it with a P4 3.06ghz, a gig of ram, nVidia 5600 256meg... I like to leave a little system resources for my applications. I like my machine to look pretty, but I also like it to be fast and usable. :whistle:

Three Drives... you have included more in your theme package than most people would have... y'z shadow alone is worth the download :) and again... thanks a lot mate! :D

Hey Three Drives, I want to say this respectfully as possible.

I really like the theme. Especially the borders and buttons.

However, I agree with an earlier post that the Lucida Grande you are using looks a little too "curly." I was wondering, if, in your next release, you could add another option for the font, maybe the same one Iceman used in his Jaguar ports.

Just a request.

Thanks a lot for all of your efforts, Three Drives. I have been following you around from aqua-soft to here waiting for this release, and it's finally here. Thanks!

    • Sadly, that is the state of things. It's basically considered acceptable for any random app running on your computer to use 1+ GB of RAM, and install space, lol, no one even seems to consider that.
    • EU Commission explains why Siri AI isn't launching in the EU, and Apple is to blame by Hamid Ganji Image via Apple This week at Apple’s 2026 developers conference, the iPhone maker unveiled the upgraded Siri after more than a year of delays. The new Siri is now called Siri AI, and it's powered by Google Gemini models. While Siri AI is preparing to roll out to Apple users worldwide, the company’s EU customers might need to wait much longer before getting their hands on the new assistant. Shortly after announcing iOS 27, Apple said in a blog post that Siri AI is not coming to the EU anytime soon due to hurdles posed by the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and other regulatory requirements. To comply with the DMA in the EU, Apple apparently needs to open Siri AI to rival assistants on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. Apple has refused to do so, which has resulted in Siri AI being delayed for its EU users. The company argues that such a move would put users’ privacy at risk. In a statement to Neowin, a European Commission spokesperson provided more details about why Siri AI will not be rolled out to Apple customers in the region. The statement first noted that the DMA does not prohibit Apple from launching its services in the EU and that the company is simply required to comply with the law. The European Commission spokesperson added that, since Apple is considered a gatekeeper under the DMA, it is “obliged to give third parties access to equivalent features as they give to its own products. Because the DMA is precisely about giving users the choice to use the product they find best suits their needs.” Moreover, the spokesperson said the Commission has been in contact with Apple, though the company “did not develop proposals for DMA compliant interoperability solutions.” The statement also clarified that companies designated as gatekeepers cannot leverage their status and products, such as operating systems, to favor their own AI services. The first public beta of iOS 27 will roll out next month, while the stable version is expected to launch this fall following the release of the iPhone 18 series. It remains unclear when Apple will be able to resolve its DMA-related compliance issues with the European Commission and bring Siri AI to its European customers.

    • This has been on the roadmap for years, nothing really new here. This is one of the few areas where Microsoft is making Windows better. Universal print is a very good things and so far works as expected. The last step is ending the option for 3rd parties to add traditional custom drivers. It is somewhat of a hurdle, but it is for a long-term good. The downside is that printer manufactures are likely going to use this as an excuse to force users onto new printers. Considering this roadmap has been public for years, then printers sold during that time should be covered...but I'm sure they will have a different opinion.
