Nobody is going to be satisfied with any situation where a character just disappears. There is just no good way to handle it. I remember the Oracle in Matrix 3 being different because the actress who played her initially had died. They tried to cram it into the story and pass it off as plausible but it was just stupid. Just realise she died in real life and let them try because they will never find a good way to do it that makes everyone happy. Sith happens. I personally think the best way to deal with it is to just pretend nothing happened, at all, and just give her zero screen time. However your previous statement was "Then they're going to have a tough time explaining Leia's absence". As I showed they can have a really easy time explaining it. I don't think Leia should have been integral to the story, it sort of displays a failure on part of the new movies to be able to stand on their own doing that.
