Notice of Data Breach: 2/8/17

Dear Customer:

At Logic Supply, information security and safeguarding your information is our highest priority. This note is to inform you of a data security breach. As a precautionary measure, your password has been reset for your protection.

What Happened?

Monday, February 6th, we discovered unauthorized access to our website, which made some customer information vulnerable. Once we discovered the breach, we blocked their access, deployed a security patch and took other security measures. We believe the vulnerability and access was for roughly 30 minutes. There were no breaches of any of our other internal applications, resources or ERP system.

What information was involved?

In stark contrast to well publicized retail breaches, no credit card or other financial information was involved in the attack. (We do not keep credit card numbers on file.) Additionally, because the breach was limited to our website, the breach did not involve any customer software imaged onto our PCs or other proprietary product information.

However the attacker may have accessed, among other things:

LogicSupply.com Username & Password

Customer (Company) names

Order information

What are we doing?

We have stopped this attack and secured our network. Additionally, we are continuing to monitor all accounts for suspicious activity and taken actions to update our Security Program. As a precautionary measure, we have executed a password reset for all account holders and are asking you to create a new password prior to your next login. (See Instructions Below).

Please click here or navigate to the 'My Account' area on our website and use the 'Forgot Your Password' feature to create a new password.

What can you do?

While a password reset will protect your Logic Supply account, we advise all customers to take the necessary actions to protect your security and change your password on any other websites that might use the same or similar information.

Safeguarding your information is one of our highest priorities and one that we don’t take lightly. We regret that this incident occurred and any inconvenience this may cause you in resetting your password. If you have any questions with regard to this matter, please contact us by replying directly to this email or by phone.

I never clicked anything. I checked their site, never ordered from them. I checked my CC, too. Nothing was added.

Tell me, is this a scam or some random carp?

Even if you were using that website you would have completely random passwords for every site right? ;)

Could be spam, or it could the site doesn't use email verification and someone mistyped their email address and used yours.

I've had that happen a few times with someone with the first letter as my name and the same last name. I've gotten the same girls stuff a few times because some sites obviously don't verify the email when creating an account.

If you ever wonder why sites want you to open an email and click a link when creating an account, this is why.

But if you've never used that site in your life, just ignore it.

Do you deal with this company in any way? If not, ignore.

Well, they are a legit company and they DID have a data breach on Feb 6th so if you never registered on their site but got that email (check those headers) then my concern would be that someone else used your email address to register. Maybe they have a very similar email address and mistyped it  and it was a mistake. None the less, if that email came from LogicSupply then your email was part of the breach.

I'm going with scam if you've NEVER used their site.

Keywords.. Dear customer. Legit sites generally, will use your name as they have it on record.

Too much emphasis on what they did in order to counter the breach.

Links most likely do not go to where they advertise. A mouse over gives that away.

Asking for you to log in via the specified address offered.

I am going off of experience with similar emails and telephone calls I've received. With a lot of the legitimate sites, they'll always tell you something similar to what I've posted.

Best to ignore it if you've never used them. If you have, there's usually some way to contact them that isn't an email (telephone call) and they can confirm or deny this. (The breach)

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
    • If I were them, I'm gonna hold out until the prices of these semiconductor parts normalize. $1,049 for a ~5 year old hardware is DoA, more so for gamers. On a deeper note, if Steam Machine is priced like this, we are soo effed up for the next gen Xbox console and PS6. With great AAA titles releasing at the end of the year, this just creates more demand...and more tears for me. Lol.
    • I suspect one reason its hard to justify subsidising is that it's not a locked down device like a traditional console is. In this climate sadly if it was a "good deal" you'd get people hoarding them for anything but gaming. The Lenovo Legion Go 2 with the Ryzen Z2 Extreme is £1300 here ($1720) for some context on how other SteamOS like devices are now priced. I got the older Z1 Extreme model for £300 with a dock, just shows how insane prices have got recently.
