Recent (2010+) not-too-complicated RTS strategy game suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I find RTS games fun but, if they're difficult, stressful and unfun.

My favorite RTS was 2007's Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.

Newer RTS games seem too complicated from the videos I've watched (mainly the UI, too many options!).

Can anyone suggest an RTS from the past, say, 7 years, that's "similar" to C&C3?

Planetary Annihilation.

The Dawn of War series, specifically Dawn of War II and it's expansions. Dawn of War III is coming out towards the end of the month as well.

Stellaris is a 4x space strategy game, I don't know if it quite fits your requirements..

Company of Heroes series.

The Anno series.

Sins of a Solar Empire.

Ashes of the Singularity.

Etc.. there are a lot of recent rts games but again, not sure if all of them fit your requirements.

You could also try out some turn based games like Civilization and Total War. Total War games have some real time elements in them (specifically the combat).

ANNO 2205 - RTS as city-builder.  It also has a combat element - SimCity it's not.  (Where it gets bashed is that it's NOT identical to prequel ANNO 2070.)  ANNO 2070 COMPLETE is both ANNO 2070 and it's sole official expansion - Deep Ocean, while ANNO 2205 Ultimate Edition is ANNO 2205 with all of its expansions.  Both are available via the Ubi Store, Steam, and (in the case of ANNO 2070 and ANNO 2070 Complete Edition) GOG.  ANNO 2205 and Ashes of the Singularity are x64-only - the surprise is that the former is notebook-friendly AND integrated-graphics-friendly (x64 and notebook-friendliness are not typically found together in any game)
