:ninja: I am currently using Windows XP Pro Digital Media Centre and would also like to use Windows Server 2003.... So in other words, I would like Dual Boot.....I've tried partition magic v8, which works on the XP Pro DMC, however I can't install it on the Server 2003. I tried installing Acronis OS Selector but after my machine reboots to make the changes, I get an error message that Acronis does not have exclusive access to the drives.....It also suggest that I should turn off Windows Management Console or any other service or program that uses my hard disk on start up....

:cry: I need help, any kind of help or maybe a tutorial on how to use linux to dual boot..

Doesnt the normal Windows Boot loader appear with a selection of either XP DMC or Windows 2003 appear?

Generally if you install the latest OS last, in this case it applies to you, that your XP install will have a different line in the boot loader in which enables you to choose which OS to boot from or after a period of time, auto boot.

You can fix this of course but i think you may have stuffed it for trying to use a diff boot loader.

Is it absolutely essential to have a separate partition for Windows Server 2003.

Boot.ini file should be similar to this on your XP installation.

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Windows Server 2003, Enterprise" /fastdetect

If you install or reinstall Windows XP in a dual boot configuration with Windows Server 2003, Setup replaces the Ntldr and Ntdetect.com files, preventing Windows Server 2003 from booting.

To resolve this problem:

1. Start the Recovery Console. If it is NOT a menu item, start the computer from the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM and press R on the setup screen.

2. After logging onto the proper Windows Server 2003 instance, type fixboot and press Enter.

3. Type Exit and press Enter.

4. Start Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP normally.

don't use any boot loaders with NT unless you have linux on the same machine. but i don't see why you'd even have this unless you're a 15 year old who lives with his parents and thinks linux is more 1337 than windows...

edit: point being, if you use linux, you don't need windows on the same machine :yes:
