Internet not responding and 'limited' connection: is there a solution?

Hi all!

I've been having this issue with my laptop (Toshiba Satellite, 2014 model I believe), and I'm starting to think that its ability to pick up wifi is pretty bad. I can be sitting right next to the router, with nobody else but me connected to it, and i'll get pages 'not responding' and the yellow exclamation mark showing 'limited', even though the bars are supposedly full strength. The only way to really fix it, temporarily, is to disconnect and reconnect, but that's really inconvenient

I'm just wondering whether this is something which can be fixed without investing in a new laptop? My gf's laptop is a HP of a similar age, but has very few problems with connectivity, and is normally very smooth when surfing the internet.

My first try would be to check for a newer wifi driver or maybe an older one.

Second get a USB wifi dongle and see if that solves your problem. If not just return the dongle.
