xp common tasks pane

i thought i should post this here, since you guys just LOVE customizing (hacking?) every single aspect of the GUI... does anyone here know what the file is or where the common tasks pane used by explorer is stored? i can't find it and i'm out of ideas...

shellstyle.dll.

it should be in the themes folder. if you're using luna, it'll be in the shell folder in the luna folder.

The vast majority of the Visual Styles on here include custom ones.

you mean custom themes create their own common tasks pane? :blink: where do they store them and how do they specify which file to use for the data that's shown?

custom themes have their own shellstyles.dll files. they're located in the shell folder in the particular theme's folder.

e.g. the gloss theme has a folder called shell with its own shellstyles.dll. when you load up the gloss theme, it uses the associated shellstyle.dll.

you can edit it using reshacker.

i don't think it's possible to change the links that are displayed.

why wouldn't it be possible? :huh: they're stored somewhere, i should just be able to change a line and have it say something different or run a different program.

i mean with just plain reshacking shellstyle.dll.

from what's on that page, it sounds like what i'm looking for is compiled in a dll somewhere... basically means i can't edit it :/ but perhaps i can do the next best thing, make a desktop.ini file that will mimic it, then i can modify it to my heart's content :o :D

well there are two methods.

1. edit the dlls, which you can do. use reshacker and open up shell32.dll and shellstyle.dll. but you can only remove and reorganize.

2. add those registry entries, create desktop.ini files, and use the webview installer.

i haven't tried it yet, but i might later.
