Looking for games like Assassin's Creed

Recommended Posts

I like Assassin's Creed games.

Specifically, I like it because it requires stealth and strategy rather than killing everything. (I hate first person shooter).

I also like the historic settings.

I am looking for other games that are similar to Assassin's Creed.

What would be some of those games?

Arkham series and Shadow of Mordor would be a good place to start. Not historic, but they have great controls and interaction as 3rd person adventure/stealth games. There are two on the tip of my tongue that I can't remember. You might enjoy Dishonored/Dishonored 2, which are more FPS but very stealth/problem solving. You may also be interested in the Thief (the reboot last year or so), or even the Tomb Raider reboot (though that is far more FPS-ish). Other things, I haven't played, so I can't discuss.

Watch Dogs 2 is one that immediately comes to mind but I don't think you'll find any other games that tick all those same boxes that the Assassins Creed games do.

Metal Gear Solid V is another awesome game if you can look past the story (or lack thereof). The game play is some of the best I've ever experienced in a game...ever.

I will definitely be looking into those.

To be honest, Assassin's Creed don't exactly have a great back story ether.

If you're talking about similar game play experience,

Tomb Raider (3rd person adventure)

Styx: Shards of Darkness (3rd person adventure/stealth)

Theif (1st person adventure/stealth)

I saw the gameplay of Thief and really like it.

Thanks!

I haven't played Watch Dogs 2, but Watch Dogs 1 is literally Assassin's Creed with hackers. Same developer, recycled engine. Literally. If you know AC games, you will be right at home in WD1. WD2 is probably more of the same (possibly better, I'm not judging, I haven't actually played either).

For something a little different, check out Deus Ex Human Revolution, the 2011 game in the franchise. It's a reboot of the 2000 and 2003 games, so you don't need to know anything about them (but the original is a classic and you should play it sometime if you haven't already. Get it on GOG). If you like Human Revolution, get Mankind Divided. That came out last year or the year before, and is a direct sequel to Human Revolution. You said you like stealth and strategy and not killing anyone. Well, Human Revolution has an achievement called Pacifist. You can KO enemies, but you cannot be responsible for a single casualty. (No dropping KO'd bodies in water.) There is another achievement called Foxiest of the Hounds. You can set off no enemy alarms. The interesting thing about Foxiest is you can still get it if you set off alarms in the first mission, because in the first mission, the enemies have taken over YOUR base, so the alarms are not enemy alarms. Only alarms in enemy locations count... it's weird. Anyway, I achieved both and I'm not particularly good with stealth, though the DX games are geared toward it. Nothing really 'historic' about DX though, they're all futuristic.

For historic, look up the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot. Well, not really historic... I mean, you know Tomb Raider, it's Indiana Jones but with a woman. The gameplay is great in that one, and there's a sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, but I haven't played it yet.

The Metal Gear series is one of my favourite series, with its focus being on stealth. You don't have to be a fan of the storyline (it's a bit convoluted, but I enjoy it all the same) to be able to enjoy the stealth aspects.

Thief is a good series, although I seem to remember that the latest one got a bit of negative press from fans of the series.

No-one has mentioned Splinter Cell yet?

My personal favourite is Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, it's got stealth and pretty non-linear levels. I've played Double Agent and Conviction, but they're both very different.

Also, Deus Ex. I've only played the original (and not even to the end!), and you can get DX10 texture packs to make it look a little less dated. Gameplay and story are nicely non-linear, you can actually run past some boss fights and see them again later I believe. Haven't played any of the sequels but I've heard good things, and you can play in 3rd person as well I'm pretty sure.

Edit:

Shout to Watch_dogs and Thief. Only really played Thief 3 (Deadly Shadows) but you can choose 1st or 3rd person as you wish.

Don't get caught out though, in Splinter Cell if you drop/fall on to an enemy's head, it knocks them out, but in Thief 3 it does nothing!

Yeeeeesss the Splinter Cell series is great, and it's all about stealth (although depending on which one you pick in the series, some of them you can also go through killing everyone like any random shooter, which kinda defeats the purpose, but you can use stealth).

I think Chaos Theory was also one of my favs. The first two were cool, I don't remember Double Agent too fondly, and Conviction (and Blacklist) were very different gameplay-wise : much faster, much more "action", while still retaining a good bit of stealth. I still liked Conviction but I think the way they were trying something new with the story helped me a lot. I don't remember blacklist's story as being that unique, however, but the gameplay is pretty much the same as Conviction.

A friend keeps bugging me to try the first Hitman games - well most of them, actually. I haven't played more than 10 minutes but it looks like it has some sort of stealth/infiltration thing going. I can't tell you how much, though.

    • What? They aren't removing the disc drive and charging $800 for questionable performance upgrades that are better suited to a new generation console? How outrageous!
    • Bummer it's only 1TB instead of 2. I had one of those - the "Halo Special Edition" OG Xbox. This looks like a cool update.

    • Google's NotebookLM gets some useful features you may have been waiting for by Aditya Tiwari It's been three years since Google introduced its AI-powered note-taking and research app, NotebookLM. Just when Apple is about to kick off WWDC 2026, the search giant has announced a platter of new NotebookLM features that add agentic capabilities in chat and more advanced reasoning. For starters, NotebookLM now draws its fuel from Gemini 3.5 and Antigravity to improve accuracy and reliability. One of the things people have been asking for a long time is more transparency into the thinking steps. NotebookLM now shows expanded thinking steps in chat, providing better visibility into the thinking process. Google compared the upgraded NotebookLM with prior versions and found that it "achieved an average win rate of over 65% — a 15% point margin above parity — across our top five core evaluation dimensions," including accuracy & quality, multilingual support, large document analysis, document creation, and advanced research. It showed substantial improvements in analyzing large documents, achieving a 69.9% win rate. The system also delivered "exceptional performance" in advanced web research and source discovery with a 78.2% win rate. The AI research tool now generates outputs in more formats. You can give instructions to guide the outputs and download the generated files from the studio panel. Here are the newly supported formats: PNG and SVG for data visualizations and charts PDFs, docx, markdown, and text files for documents PNG, JPG, and GIF for images JSON and CSV for structured data XLSX for Microsoft Excel PPTX for Microsoft PowerPoint You can make edits after the outputs are generated. The feature is available globally; therefore, you can provide directions in one language and create outputs in another. Google said that it's also making it easier to get started with a project in NotebookLM. Instead of having a list of sources beforehand, you can even start with loose ideas, and NotebookLM can help build the repository of sources through the chat. For instance, you can find primary sources in other languages to get new perspectives or explore related works of an author. All of these new features are rolling out globally for those who can loosen up their pockets. They are available to users with Google AI Ultra and all Workspace business customers with AI Ultra access. Google has plans to expand them to more users in the future.
