I'm trying to do some research on what the best solution for replacing Dropbox with an onsite storage which would be sharing big files aka Adobe files like PSD, INDD, AI and PDF. These files will need to be shared with 4 different graphic designers. The solution they have now is using Dropbox Teams which is not bad way to go but you need to have a 1TB SSD drive on the computer and files don't link correctly because Dropbox is under your user directly and that changes the path of each link which breaks the chain of the file that you are linking to on a different computer when someone opens it. The storage needs to be able to have a user and password for about 20 people to get on to and not just one user and password to access the storage. To make sure who is getting on the storage. They do have a server bay onsite and everything is wired so speed is not an issue. Would also like a solution for people who need to get on the storage when they are offsite. Plus would like to know what the best backup solution for the onsite storage which will backup once a day or week on the cloud.

I have work with Drobo in the past but that was over 9 years ago. I hear some good things about Synology know much about it. Thanks!

You do not have to do it that way you can create dropbox folder anywhere you want.  Mine is d:\dropbox for example.

So is your goal to not have the files directly on the users computer any longer and just access the site storage directly be it they are onsite or remote?

Just to point out that it will be shared on Mac and PC so that open will not work. Yes, we don't want all the files on all the computers. We want it on on storage and people can access it like a drive instead of downloading the whole marketing files and have dropbox keep updated all the computers when something has changed. It's not a good solution for the company is doing.

Well then just any share works..  SMB, NFS, etc.. That all your OSes can use If you don't have a server then sure any NAS would work..

As to remote access - VPN in.. Keep in mind that direct access to files over a vpn can be problematic all depending on speed/latency of the end users connection.. If the files are LARGE not a good idea to work on them directly over the remote connection.. Would be best in such a scenario to have the user copy the file to their machine.. Edit what they need too remotely, then upload it back..

    • ...so more bloat is added (that naturally is always running in the background, using resources) that will report that you have a lot of bloat (and also a few more ads were also added but that has nothing to do with anything, right...).
    • Thank you for replying! Is MP600 also good? Where I'm looking they don't have MP700. I was also looking at Corsair T500, that comes with heatsink.

Meanwhile for those who prefer more powerful home cinema sound systems, Nakamichi and Samsung are offering the Dragon and Shockwafe models, and the Q-series models, respectively, at their best ever prices.
