After spending over a year buying various HDTVs, I've finally found one I'm happy with, a Toshiba 37WLT68. It's got by far the best image I've seen on any display, and is one of the first LCDs with 100/120Hz. (which really does make a difference to motion handling) Here's some photos of it in action - first, Gears of War. (minor spoilers in a couple of shots I guess)

I want to point out that a lot of these photos have vertical banding over them, or a slightly grainy look - this is moir? caused by my camera not being focused correctly, you don't see it at all when you're in front of the TV. Some of them are also a bit on the dark side or a little blurred. (the Metroid ones in particular) Other than 50% downsize, they're all straight out of my camera, no editing.

Sorry if I've gone overboard with the pics, I'm just really happy to have finally found a HDTV worth the money / worth keeping.:DD (and I've considered / looked at just about everything other than the Fujitsu AVIAMO LCD due next year)

My computer setup hasn't really changed much from this shot I took a while back:

It's just a 15" Core2Duo MacBook Pro now, instead of a 17" Powerbook, and there's a lot more CDs/DS games.

Here is my setup, 42" plasma cheap ass reciever for now untill my new house is built and then i'll bring out my 6 foot newonce speakers and Harmon/kardon reciver.

do you have any problems with that sub so close to your 360?

Is that Prey limited edition for the 360? I never knew they released one, it's pretty big huh :p I thought GOW was bad lol

yea that is the limited edition for prey, and yea its huge. it sucks here its hard to find just the regular games most of the time all you can find are the limited editions.

Ah that sucks. I don't mind buying Limited Edition once in a while. Depends on the case and extras.

Here's a few snaps of my setup. I'm saving up for an HDTV now that I have my Wii. For now using my 19" Dell and 7.1 pc speakers.

Sorry for the low quality, I'll take better ones sometime.

Anybody know where to buy some nice DVD racks? as you can see I don't have much room just now :(

Here is my setup, not the "Sexiest" setup but as long as I can play Xbox 360 I am fine, but I do plan to get myself a 21" or 24" Dell WS monitor.

:o Your 360.. is on a carpet! I have always been told NEVER, EVER, do that, blocks air holes and seeing as the 360 has some on the bottom that's a minus factor.

But not a bad setup anyway :).

Well, I dont have any space to put and besides, when I touch the bottom part of the console (bottom and side bottoms) it is EXTREMELY cool. I don't know how that would mean that heat somewhere else is being affected by a COOL area.

So far I haven't had any issues, and I have 2 years of extended warranty so I am not worried.

Next to your TV? Anyway I'm not going to pick. It's your choice :). Have fun, hope to get my 360 soon.

Haha yeah, trust me though if it was slightly warm in any area other than the GPU and the CPU I would move it to a better area. Don't worry though, I mean I am in Canada and it's pretty cold up here, I live in the 9th floor too so it's pretty windy thus my apartment is colder than the usual household :p.

I get what you mean about the whole carpet thing, my room is a warm room and when I put my laptop on my bed it gets pretty hot (around 60c).

You seem to be a big fan of Xbox 360 heh, If you were my neighbor I would just put the Xbox 360 at your place heh, and come over when I want to play until you get your own then we can play online =D.

I hope you get your 360 soon, do you have an HDTV?

OOOolllaaalalala

360 is hidden :shiftyninja:

TV is fricckin huge...

Parents dont know I blew my college fund money on the 360 lol

Since my mom got a new job...we are officially in the top 15% of highest earning families (aka rich)

W00t.

I guess you can afford a bigger stand then.

    • No, "a great deal" for 32GB of DDR5 is $50, not $350. I mean I see what you mean, that it's a decent price compared to what's currently available, but you really should put a disclaimer in this articles explaining that it's still multiple times more expensive than it used to be.
    • Linux 7.1 stable launch looms as Linus Torvalds releases the final release candidate by Paul Hill Linus Torvalds has just released what’s expected to be the final release candidate of Linux 7.1, rc7. The Linux founder said that this RC is not small, but smaller than recent releases, which is a good sign because he expects the stable version to drop next week if things continue on this trajectory. Linux kernels see a merge window for the first two weeks of their life, where developers add new features, then there are about seven or eight weeks of release candidates before the stable version. Typically, there are seven release candidates, but if more time is needed, then an eighth release candidate is released too. This week’s RC’s biggest area of fixes was for GPUs, with networking just behind. Torvalds said that the rest of the release was “pretty random and spread out” with some architecture fixes, driver fixes, filesystem improvements, and build fixes for more unusual configs. In terms of specific pieces of hardware receiving improvements in this update, we had more AMD Zen6 models supported and fixes for AMD SDMA 7.1 and GFX11. Hardware that got improvements includes Lenovo laptops, HONOR laptops, and MSI laptops. Here are the changelogs for those: ASoC: amd: acp: Add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15ASH11 Input: atkbd - add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Air 14 (83QK) Input: atkbd - skip deactivate for HONOR BCC-N's internal keyboard ASoC: amd: yc: Add MSI Raider A18 HX A9WJG to quirk table ASoC: amd: yc: Enable internal mic on MSI Bravo 17 C7VF When the stable Linux 7.1 is released, it will be up to distribution maintainers, such as Canonical and Red Hat, to release the update to their users via the update manager. Some versions of Linux will get it before others, and some will never get it at all. Fedora and Arch-based distros will be among the first to get it, though. If you don’t get it, the security fixes will be backported to your system’s kernel, so you won’t be at risk, but you won’t get newer hardware support, which is fine if your computer works now.
