My Intel 2 Quad Core Q6600 is only showing 2 cores on task manager and device manager,

Recommended Posts

Hello guys

Ive been having this problem from the last weeks, my intel quad q6600 is showing 2 cores instead of 4.

Ive tried everything what other threads explained, but my cpu is still bugged.

Maybe its the Windows 10 thats causing this issue. Please give me a solution please.

Thanks

I believe core parking was removed from windows 8.1 onwards, so check your power settings, you might need to set it to high performance?

or see if this helps

No point at this juncture

the cpu isn't exactly new, and windows 7 is about as done as it gets, even though I'm still using it, it's almost not worth the effort of a reformat, for basically a couple of years and a bit worth of use.

How many processors are listed under device manager?

Is processors limited in msconfig?

misconfig > Boot > Advanced Options > "Number of processors" should be unchecked

The Q6600 uses a technique of combining 2x 2core cpu dies into one quad core chip, so what might have happened is one of those has actually failed and is no longer functioning while the other one remains operational, so you see this as only 2 cores now reported by the system.

you could always try downloading one of the various linux live discs and seeing if all CPUs show up there, if they do you know it is something with your Windows install, if they dont show up under Linux I would assume something is disabled in BIOS or a hardware failure has begun.

Hello,

If you go into Task Manager (filename: TASKMGR.EXE), click on the Performance tab, then click on the CPU item in the left pane, it should show the CPU's performance as a single chart in the right pane.  Below that it will list values for Sockets, Cores and Logical Processors.  What are those?

Now, go ahead, and right-click on any part of the right-pane, and a context menu will come up, with the first option being Change graph to >.  Use that to choose Logical Processors.  How many graphics are now displayed in the right pane?

Regards,

*crickets* from the OP - this thread is toast.

I imagine he found the setting that he messed with and changed it back.

LOL - Oh man all this time, I never noticed I typo'd FeyNman's name.  Thats embarassing (and unacceptable) consider I admittedly have a postmortem mancrush with the guy.

Between your poetic techno-mindtrip, and the Autotuned Carl Sagan... I need to go down to the street corner and score some herb .

Feynman's bongo session "I gotta have it, Orange Juice" is pretty good stuff too.
But I have to admit, your creative mind-bending, alternate dimension storytelling is better. Well done.

Reminds of the blind guy from the Simpsons, "it's medical, if I don't smoke it, I'll go more blind!"

    • I contacted 0patch and I'm trying to work with it, this is new to me, but I'll figure it before EOL and then get a 5 year patches for € 125. My acer laptop is 6 years old but still going strong, I can maintain it myself; with the help of IFixit, Acer Aspire 7 fully loaded
    • Since win 95 I never used system sound; only the first time to check if the sound card works; after that no annoying click sounds and whistles on every key stroke or every notification. That's why I have my taskbar on top, you'll notice the notification center way sooner at the top right than at the bottom right.

    • Here is a list of Samsung Galaxy watches that won't be supported after September 2025 by Sayan Sen Samsung Gear S3 Samsung has confirmed that support for its Tizen-powered smartwatches will officially end in September 2025. The decision marks the final phase of a gradual wind-down process that began last year and reflects the company’s strategic shift toward its Wear OS–powered devices from its own in-house Tizen. If you recall, the South Korean giant began moving away from it back in 2021. The phase-out started on September 30, 2024, when the Galaxy Store stopped offering paid content for Tizen devices. This was followed by another key deadline on May 31, 2025, when new downloads of free Tizen content were disabled. Finally, by the end of September 2025 later this year, users will no longer be able to re-download any previously purchased content via the Galaxy Store. At the time, Samsung had shared the following timeline in an official "Tizen Watch Service Termination Schedule" notice as it wrote: While Samsung has not specified the list of affected wearable devices that will no longer receive Tizen support after September 2025, the following products are likely to be getting the axe: Galaxy Gear Series Samsung Galaxy Gear (Original model) Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 Samsung Gear S3 Classic Samsung Gear S3 Frontier Galaxy Watch Series (Tizen-based) Samsung Galaxy Watch (First Generation / Galaxy Watch 1) Samsung Galaxy Watch Active Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 Thus, devices launched after the Galaxy Watch3, including the Galaxy Watch4 series and subsequent models, are built on Wear OS and remain unaffected by this transition. On the flip side, Samsung is not planning to switch to Google TV for its TVs, as these still come preloaded with its own Tizen OS, and even offer seven years of support.
