Anyone using DASH or sim software to read info from OBD2

Recommended Posts

So just ordered the module to work with https://dash.by/

Was curious if anyone else here using such software to monitor their driving details?

Most curious on the info that can be obtained for hybrids, specifically I just recently got a ioniq.  Module should be here on of friday from amazon so should have some direct experience with in a few days.

you should have contacted me before purchase. I gots something for you.

Look up edge 84130. You can monitor just about everything.

Edit: Nm not what u are looking for. I don’t want my car connected via my phone. A security hole could essentially give full access to obd. This can reprogram your car Ecu which is giving root access to your car. No thanks. Somethings, IMO, should remain offline. Bad enough infotainment is an avenue where they have to get through to get there, that port gives them instant god access.

Your security concerns are very valid.. But my inner geek sometimes gets the best of my tin foil hat ;)

I am not sure if I will leave it plugged in all the time.. But I do want to play with it - you would HOPE that security related to bluetooth access would make some serious strides soon..  I would hope when the car is off that the bluetooth of the dongle would be off?  There should be some security method of pairing with it - but from reading it seems not?

Having it will for sure allow me to research more into the security concerns such devices could pose while driving down the road, etc.

Wow that is pretty crappy design.. So anyone could just walk up to the car, pair to it and open your doors, etc.  They could just hack the keyless entry anyway.. But that would be like just leaving your doors unlocked completely since there is no security with the bluetooth pairing..  And anyone who could install an app from apple or google for their phones would be able to open doors, plus much more, etc.

Have to work out something to unpower it, or just unplug it - hope it has easy access so not too big of a pain unplug/plugin..

Here is a somewhat recent attack..

https://argus-sec.com/remote-attack-bosch-drivelog-connector-dongle/

The vulnerabilities allowed us to stop the engine of a moving vehicle using the Drivelog platform.

Guess it will just be a toy I play with while in my garage.. My tinfoil is loose and tilted to the side most of the time, but this come on people.. WTF you thinking making stuff like this just open without legit security features..

Yea. You would want that to be extremely secure. That is the worst place in your car to have a security hole. ESP with cars that have steering assist or auto parallel park. Wouldn’t take much to program a slight wheel turn to have you hit a car next to you, go off a bridge, or off a cliff.

Obd is off limits and should be that way unless wired in with very local access.

I am probably looser than you are when it comes to security, but knowing what devices connected to that port can do to your car makes me very cautious on what gets plugged in there. It isn’t just a diagnostics port, it is a reprogram your entire car port with a side order of diagnostics.

Well I am returning the dongle.. carista one.. It wouldn't maintain a connection, and took a bit to connect, etc.  For the desired purpose and then the security implications that sc302 correctly points out.  Not worth it - when it connected and stayed on for a minute at most.. The info it could provide was pretty slick..

If you could get this info securely and stable and quickly connect it would be slick.  My phone connects to the car in seconds.. Never have any other issues with other bluetooth devices.  My fitbit blaze, my multiple bluetooth headphones and speakers.  So not a phone problem that is for sure.

Other problem with it is sticks out, and with the way the obd2 connector is in the car - you can not put the cover back over where it and the fuses are if you connect the dongle..  It is a no go, would of been fun to play with..  But couldn't even maintain a connection for longer than a minute, etc.  Maybe got a defective one?  But not worth trying with a different one since they all have the same complete lack of security.
