Tried some differnet benchmark software which didn't give the greatest info, but you can see the results.

It’s in the realm of measurement accuracy/error.

Hardly thorough benchmarking but both higher than before patch....go figure!

I would like to see some benchies submitted with AMD chips for a more rounded dataset tbh.

No wonder it's not having any performance impact.

good info to know mate, thank you.

The reason why older CPUs see a larger performance hit is the absence of PCID. PCID mostly mititgates the performance hit. Not sure how far it goes back (haswell maybe?), but seventh and 8th gen Intel CPUs should not feel the burn.

Further research and discussion with co-workers on my end  has shown that unless the process/app/whatever is making sys calls, it’s not going to make much of a difference.

I also read something similar, the performance hit is only when making sys calls, so a VM would potentially have a performance decline, correct?

ill get back to you on that tomms mate, I set up a W10 VM and 2k16 server VM for testing at work before leaving today. On Lenovo X Series hosts running Esxi 6. (12 Xeons per host)

corpwide were assessing and deciding if its worth pushing the patch out, Sec dir above us reckons while its a stinker, it doesnt pose any real world threat to our global estate at this point in time. for one the systems need to be compromised before this is even a "thing", games already lost at that point.

Unknown. I’m way out of my comfort zone with the complexity of this.

yep, im the same, grasping some of it, but bowing to my Sec teams superior knowledge in this field, im just helping them spread the workload, cos im nice like that (and im whoring myself to Global Corp Sec team for a new role with them from home :P)

im sick of going into an office and dealing with retarded end losers directly as well as server/site adm work (which i love!), im getting too old to enjoy juggling multiple roles at a single site, and my boss is an inept A-hole :p but thats another story!

might even post a soapbox article on todays events re: NTP settings and synching issues, i was without words when i discovered what had been setup. put it this way, in general Default GPO holds every policy estate wide....no just no!! /faceplant! thats a starter for 10 in what i discovered!

Nah mate, tried reinstalling and no dice. no new version atm either. meantime ive set it all up in bios manually, inc fan tuning.

Ive emailed Asus support to notify them of my findings.

    • Microsoft: Edge performs better than Google Chrome on Windows in ad blocking and more by Sayan Sen Recently, Google put out a performance report for its Chrome web browser explaining how the changes it made to memory management and caching mechanisms managed to make it the fastest it has ever been. Google is not the only one to do it recently, as Microsoft too made similar claims about performance boosts earlier in the year in April. If you were trying to pick between the two, Microsoft is trying to make it easy for you to decide. In a recent blog post titled "Microsoft Edge browser: The fast, smart alternative to Chrome," the tech giant has laid out all the reasons you should pick its browser over Google Chrome. As pointed out in our first paragraph, performance is something these companies often try to brag about, and for good reasons, because people do want to get a snappier experience. This could explain why Mozilla's Firefox has been left behind over time in terms of market share, as it has not been able to keep up with Chromium-based browsers in the performance department. Microsoft says that Edge is better for your Windows PC than Google's Chrome, as it is a "Microsoft product" that "integrates closely with Microsoft Windows," which helps with "performance benefits." Besides that, the Redmond company also points out other "speed and efficiency" features of Edge, like sleeping tabs that helped save 'over 7 trillion megabytes of memory' in 2024. And Edge is also said to "help with smooth performance so that add-ons like Microsoft Translator, ad blockers, and password managers work efficiently." Microsoft adds how the "optimized architecture of Edge helps with lower CPU load and overall resource consumption, providing a smooth experience, particularly on low-spec devices" and also how its "efficient resource allocation helps minimize slowdowns." Aside from performance, productivity is another area where Microsoft says Edge excels. That is thanks to Microsoft 365 integration and other AI tools. In the end of the blog post, Microsoft suggests that this is the right time to switch to Edge from Google Chrome. You can find the post here on Microsoft's official website.
    • At some point, hardware becomes obsolete and we cant blame vendors for dropping support. Much of the models dropped, run Intel hardware which means they can install something else on the device if they truly want to keep using it.

    • Because Apple has never discontinued Mac models before now?
    • I recall reading that they intend to synchronize the version numbers between iOS, tvOS and macOS, so we will also be getting macOS 26 up next.
