Can I install Ubuntu on a late-2006 iMac?

It's a computer, its no different than installing on an HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc. Boot from USB, wipe drive (unless you want to dual boot), install Ubuntu. That's it.

Unlike most PCs, some hardware with Mac computers may not function because they are proprietary and run solely with mac/apple drivers. Using VMWare is a better option if you can use that. Otherwise, use the links listed above.

While I do agree with much of what you have said, a macbook of that age shouldn't have any of those issues on Linux; now a new MBP with a touchbar for instance might have some driver issues, a late 2006 model shouldnt.
