Lastpass question

Password managers like LastPass, 1Password and Bitwarden are almost essential tools in todays world. If you think you can remember all your passwords, you likely have pretty bad passwords.  I used LastPass (free and pay) for years and now use Bitwarden and recommend either of them.

I agree with Daniel wholeheartedly, Lastpass has worked well for years at home and at my business. I could not imagine being without it.

I switched over a few months back and haven't looked back since. My favourite features are the password generator and the security test (which checks your passwords and lets you know about any that may be a little weak)

Just make sure that you master password is strong but something memorable. In the first few weeks after switching over, I did forget and lost all my passwords. Gave me a chance to change password that I hadn't in a while.

This drives me nuts at work. I always offer the same point: "We've given you this program to remember multiple complex passwords so that you don't have to, how do you forget the one password to rule them all?!"

But yes, that can be an issue.

I Love it. I have 477 site passwords (Gibberish) stored in lastpass. I love the two-factor security. I love the fact that you can restrict logins from other countries (though a VPN may get around that) still a neat feature. I love how the print out looks when you print your passwords out.

I've tried to recommend this to my customers but every time I show it to them I instantly regret it as they are confused as ######. A lot of them would just use lastpass to store the same exact password for every website. If that's the case then what's the ######## point.

I was wondering if anyone uses this (or something like it) and what is your opinion of it?

I've been using LastPass for the past few years.  I really like it. My Dad uses Dashlane, which runs a stupid app on his desktop at all times.

change to change, hmm...

I been using LastPass for the last 7-8 years now. Is available for Windows/MAC/Linux. Works on Android/iOSX if you pay for the pro version.

Never had an issue.

Do you guys recommend using a paid version instead of free?

Expand

I use the paid version; it was originally $12 a year, but they've recently increased the cost to $24 a year.  Still, for $2 a month, I think it's a pretty good solution.  Having said that, I don't know that I'll continue my paid subscription after this one expires.  I notice that Google has beefed up its Password manager for Chrome, offering some of the same functionality as in LastPass (such as auto-creation of passwords).

Don't quote me on this, but I think one of the features of the Paid version is two-factor authentication for your lastpass account. If that is the case, that is reason alone.

Well, you can't use the Android/iOSX version unless you pay. Will bring up an error if you try that.

I currently get the Free version. Might get the family deal. As my Dad uses his own as well.

They did have a Pro trial about a year ago, and I was using  my tablet fine. But after the Pro expired, I couldn't use it on my tablet anymore. Works on main PC tho.

I have two-factor authentication for Lastpass on the free version...

I have been using it for years, and have had a great experience so far. I highly recommend it.

Looking on the payment page - https://lastpass.com/premium/payment

I don't think there's anything that's a must have feature.

  • Emergency access
  • One-to-many sharing
  • Advanced multi-factor authentication - this is more things like YubiKey etc as opposed to 2FA
  • Priority tech support
  • LastPass for Applications - This is for applications on Windows
  • 1GB encrypted file storage

An even better solution would be using KeePass and controlling your own database, I personally use KeePass.

I would remove them from firefox and turn off the option to save passwords if you plan to use a password manager.

Go into Firefox's password manager and click show passwords and see if seeing them right there in plain text doesn't frighten you to your core.

I've been a LastPass user for 9 years now.  Signed up for premium right away to use it on multiple platforms and to take advantage of their advanced multi-factor authentication options.  I could probably get away with the free version currently, but personally I get so much value out of it that I would feel guilty using the free version.  Yes, it's that good.  562 sites, not a duplicate password among them.  No worries about forgetting.  Easy logins on desktop and mobile.  Great place to store other passwords and codes as well, even for the offline world.

    • Isn't the CPU used to calculate the parity for the RAID? If so, the combination of SSDs and 10GBe might make the CPU more important
    • yeah GSMA began working to enable end to end encryption between android and iphone last year and apparently a new standard was developed. apple has said that they would implement this in "future software updates" but i haven't heard anything since march, the time this was all reported on. shortly after, i read on forbes that the FBI suggests not sending texts between iphone and android because they're unencrypted. i use signal to chat with my wife but i'd rather just use messages tbh (she has an iphone), i'm not really a 3rd party guy haha
    • Well, I did not like the trailer for the project he went to work on also, but why do you think he should waste time with this… did you love the season 2?
