Anthem VIP invite and first impressions

Recommended Posts

I just received a VIP invite to the Anthem beta and some of the things that jump out to me are

1. Its DX11. Im really hoping for DX12 as its using the Frostbite engine, but with EA stink all over this game who knows!?

2. 2k at Ultra I was well pegged beyond 4gb vid ram and I can imagine 4k could hit those 11gb cards.

3. It felt very much like Destiny when it came to the shooting (that arcade feel). But with added jumping and flying it did make it easier to get around.

Overall its an early beta and Im excited to see the polish because it really does look good for those users with a 2080ti or 1080ti

For reference my specs are Core i5 2550k at 4.5Ghz on water. 16gb Ram. nVidia G1 Gaming GTX970 4gb 1600mhz/3500mhz

Everything I've heard it has issues. From connectivity to FPS suffering. The pc client had fps issues, but so did the consoles. They were struggling to get to 30 fps. And they didn't have enough servers/bandwidth for the amount of traffic needed. Because when only your pre-orders are connecting you have no idea of the number of people that are going to be connected. Because no one told them the total number of pre-orders I guess. /sigh

EA ... ugh

Just play Warframe. It's free to download and it's the same game basically.

I was part of this test (as well as the alpha) and have to say I had zero issues with both tests. Sorry, I had rubberbanding in the alpha, but apart from that it was a very smooth experience. Was playing at 4k res on my 4790K and 1080. Pleasantly surprised! When I read of all the issues people were having I wonder if I was the only one that didn't run in to some sort of problem

i have the vip beta but couldn't get past the load screen going from the main area into a gameso it was a total waste for me. So on that basis i've decided not to pre-order and wait until i know i can get past the load screen

I can't talk about performance or bugs since I don't have it or haven't played it.  But to those who have I just wonder how much of it is solo?  Like from what I've read the "hub" is specific to each player and more like a single player game, with the outside world and missions co-op.   How is the drop-in MP for missions?  I have a hectic work schedule so matching up with others to play as a team is hard for me to do.  If the matchmaking drop-in co-op for missions is good then I can live with that.

It's probably the best 1.0 release Bioware has ever done.  Very few bugs (but when you do come across one it can be seriously annoying.)

There was a patch making the loot give less stupid bonuses.

The story feels a bit too straightforward IMO.  I was expecting more plot twists or something.

The gameplay is repetitive, but hell that's true with most FPSes.

That you only level up one character is neat, and each of the javelins is fun to play when you want a different experience.  There is javelin specific gear as well.

I'm waiting for a patch to get back into it, but I did finish the main storyline on Xbox and enjoyed it.

I got anthem and its a bug fest, constant crashing  sometimes to desktop, sometimes hard lock & reset required unable to play for more than 5mins.  Its a complete waste of money atm nd i dont see it getting better anytime soon

    • I agree, especially if it is cloud sourced, like this one is.. but I wouldn't say no to a local AI assistant similar to the Zettlab one which would be really helpful with my large Photos library, but also to perform tasks like installing Docker apps rather than me having to do it via Docker Compose, but I don't think we're quite there yet. Synology Photos is somewhat AI, you can ask it to search for certain people (if you have tagged them and it will attempt to match similar photos to the person) and if you put a search term in for "cars" for example, it will show you all photos with a car.
    • I doubt that Google will keep the same price... it may go up from that list published.

The company says this design helps deliver fast response times and better articulate sound across the audible frequency range. Comfort and durability are also key aspects of the HD 600 as the headphones feature soft velour ear pads designed for extended listening sessions. The HD 600 comes with a detachable 3-meter cable, a 6.3 mm stereo connector, and a 3.5 mm adapter for compatibility with a wide range of audio equipment. • So the card is targeted at headphone users - so the review should be from someone that uses this - maybe I can review a card next time.
