Magic Trackpad 2 - Battery drain?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone use the Apple Magic Trackpad 2? I've had about 15% battery drain in a week, and I'm wondering if that's normal?

(sounds like Im going to the Dr to see about a rash, sheesh)

My Apple Magic Overpriced Keyboard 2 drains a lot less quickly, Ive got about 3 weeks out of 20% battery, but it does feel like I touch it a lot less....

Okay this is really getting weird.

I have the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard (v2 I think) and it seems to chew thru a pair of AA lithium batteries every 80 days or so.

The Apple Magic Trackpad 2 was around 50days but the last pair of lithiums only lasted 20 days!!

I have some alkalines in there now to see how they compare.

I'd love to know why the sudden increase in drain.

I dont know how to check but have started recording daily batter levels via crontab:

0 12 * * * /usr/sbin/ioreg -l | /usr/bin/perl -MPOSIX=strftime -nle '$dev="$1 $2" if /-o (\w+).*class.* id (0x\w+)/;print join" ",time,strftime("\%Y\%m\%d",localtime),$dev,$1 if / "BatteryPercent\D*(\d+)/' >> ~/.battery.log

It appends the following to $HOME/.battery.log

1582563600 20200224 BNBTrackpadDevice 0x1000870b7 97
1582563600 20200224 AppleBluetoothHIDKeyboard 0x10008f58c 100

The first field is epoch-seconds since 1970/01/01

The second field is YYYYmmdd

The last field is the battery percentage.

One month later the CVS alkaline batteries drained to powerdown.

I tried turning off the trackpad at night a few times but rarely remembered to do so.

Two months later and the two second gen devices are working great. They seem very power efficient, and maybe worth it to replace the first gen if you can get them at a reduced price.

This is useful when you are disconnected or when you must create diagrams in a highly secure environment, where data protection is of the utmost importance. When you use the draw.io desktop app, your diagrams will be stored on your local device. Because this is a stand-alone application, also designed to run offline, there are no interfaces to cloud storage platforms available. Of course, you can still store your diagrams in folders that are synchronised to your cloud storage if you wish. Easy-to-use diagram editor The draw.io apps work just like the office and drawing tools you are used to using. Drag and drop shapes from the shape libraries and drag to draw connectors between them. Drag connectors to add waypoints and set a precise shape and position, or let them reroute automatically. Double click and start typing to add a label to anything.
