So, currently I have about a 20yr old Sony surround sound system.  Still works great but looking for something newer, possibly.

What I have is, not exact model but close enough, https://www.crutchfield.com/S-KDH3TK6fNSc/p_158HDX275/Sony-DAV-HDX275.html

So looking for an all in one and was looking for recommendations.  Really do not care about the DISC changer or it to have a DISC drive at all as I play everything through my xbox.  Need to be able to play anything on my TV through the new system.  Not looking to spend a bunch of money.  I think I spent $400 for my current system about 20yrs ago or so.

Recommendations?

Thanks

what features are you looking for?

optical audio, digital audio, or classic RCA?

5.1 or 7.1 surround?

main question, do you want it to support HDMI-CEC so you can control it with your TV remote? I could suggest a few options but this is the main thing that changes what I will suggest :)

Using optical audio now so that should be fine. Hdmisec not a big deal.  5.1 or 7.1 is fine. I have 5.1 now.  Does not need to have a disc drive.

just looked at your link. My Aunt/Uncle have that exact Sony model in their house lol

My main recommendation would by the Logitech Z906 surround sound speaker set. I have this one in my living room and it does not disappoint.

it runs $400 full price but amazon has them for $278 right now https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Surround-Sound-Speaker-System/dp/B004M18O60/

looking around it doesn't seem like too may do full surround sound systems anymore; most OEMs seem to have moved to sound bars only.

I did find a couple others looking on Amazon though funny thing is the Z906 is still the top most popular listing on Amazon :D.

my search: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=5.1+surround+sound+system

Here's an interesting one by Vizio. Soundbar + sub-woofer + 2 rear speakers for 5.1

I actually have this model right now....

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/487206-REG/Sony_DAV_HDX500_I_DAV_HDX500_Home_Theater.html

I basically want to upgrade so I can control my system via Alexa.  It works fine right now but Alexa will only turn on my TV and XBOX and the sound needs to be manually turned on.  I don't even plug in the HDMI cable  for the Sony system since I do not use the disc drives, just surround sound.   I can also run new speaker wire to a different box/receiver and use my same speakers as they work just fine.

ah, then yeah you would benefit from HDMI-CEC if you want it to turn on with the TV. With HDMI-CEC when your TV is turned on it can turn on the sound system as well as a reaction. I have a setup like that in my bedroom. I have a Sony TV with a Nvidia Shield TV and have a Samsung 5.1 surround sound blueray player hooked up to my TV with optical audio and a HDMI cable plugged into the CEC supported HDMI port on my TV.

I can tell Alexa to turn on the bedroom TV which takes the Nvidia Shield out of sleep which in turn triggers the TV to turn on via CEC which in turn the TV tells the sound system to turn on also through CEC.

I'm not sure if your TV supports HDMI Arc so I'm not going to recommend any of those.

Here's a couple other suggestions though; you're really only going to get HDMI-CEC support with blueray player combos I'm pretty sure so here's a few

This is the newer model of the system I have in my bedroom that supports what you're looking for like I mentioned in my last post

    • Weekend PC Game Deals: Resident Evil, Mafia, Like a Dragon, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Weekend PC Game Deals is where the hottest gaming deals from all over the internet are gathered into one place every week for your consumption. So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets. The Epic concluded its mystery giveaways this week with another double freebie promotion. As a part of this, you can now grab Rogue Waters and Songs of Conquest to keep. Songs of Conquest is a turn-based 4X strategy game where you'll be managing a kingdom, making tough decisions, and taking down enemy forces in tactical combat. Meanwhile, Rogue Waters is a roguelike where, as a pirate captain, you command a ship and crew through procedurally generated encounters. The double giveaway is coming to an end on June 11. On the same day, Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks will join in as the next freebie. Another Humble Choice offer was revealed earlier this week, bringing a refreshed eight-game selection to jump into. The June selection is Octopath Traveler 2, The Riftbreaker, Life is Strange: Double Exposure, INDIKA, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, Construction Simulator, Hell Clock, and Overlooting to keep as Steam keys. The $15 bundle gives you all eight games from this month's Choice selection. The month-long promotion will come to an end on July 6, giving you ample time to decide on whether you want the titles. The Humble Store also brought in standard gaming collections this week. The IGN Live Bundle kicked things off with games like Control, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, Blair Witch, Rollerdrome, and The Last Campfire for $10. At the same time, the We Will Always be Here bundle carried in titles like Bad End Theater, Thirsty Suitors, Vampire Therapist, and Tavern Talk for $12. Next, the 2K Sports Champions Bundle comes touting games like NBA 2K26, PGA TOUR 2K25, OlliOlli World Rad Edition, and TopSpin 2K25 with a hefty $25 price tag. • Exciting! It’s amazing how hearing Japanese can naturally enhance the perceived quality of any experience or product.
    • Your other comment in another article says otherwise, namely "Microsoft veteran wants to replace every single line of C/C++ code with Rust and AI".
    • Sued and... exonerated. Oh, they learned a lesson alright. They learned that anyone who uses the word "antiturst" in conjunction with "Microsoft" is an idiot, even if that person is Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson. That judge ruined the image of the US justice system. Microsoft Edge has a 5.14% market share. Also, Windows is no longer the #1 OS. None of this constitutes a monopoly. Google Chrome, however, has 70.25% share. Also, Google's Android is the #1 OS. Now that's closer to a monopoly.
