Simple free Windows video editing software

Question

Eventually gotten around to ripping my old (embarrasing) family home videos from VHS to digital, I now have a couple of mpg files which I could really do with splitting up into clips.

Is there anything free that works well where I can take one video file, put it in a timeline, and slice the single video file up into smaller clips?

Thanks guys.

Avidemux might be simple and good enough for saving simple A <---> B clips.

....or a little more advance ...
