Hi guys,

I have an Intel NUC 7i3bnh. It's running Windows 10 Pro.

When i boot the computer with no USB hub plugged in, the BIOS startup is around 10 sec.

When i boot while a powered USB3 HUB with 7HD's is plugged in, the BIOS startup time goes up to about 50 sec.

I've already checked the UEFI Bios, and for the Boot sequence i only have UEFI selected and then the SATA drive, no Legacy options are selected. There are no other boot devices selected at all.

I've been searching online and this seems to be a common problem, for many computers, not just Intel NUC's, but i haven't found a solution yet.

Has anybody here ran into that problem and found an explanation and solution?

Any help is appreciated!

Just to clarify, the part that takes massively longer when booting with the USB hub connected is the part before you get the little spinning wheel and you get your options to Enter Bios, Update Bios and Boot options.

Once it's there everything goes just as fast as normal.

Hello,

Just to check, are any options to boot from USB specifically disabled/excluded in the BIOS (UEFI) firmware?

I looked at that and my only boot option at the moment is the Internal SATA drive.

I made a point to exclude any other start options, no usb, no network

How about if you unplug the drives and leave the hub plugged in?  If that works, try with one drive, then two.

Same problem if you just have the USB hub plugged in, it not as long, but still long.

So it does seem that somehow before Windows starts it tries to do something with the USB hub and drives.

This is a problem that's been around for a long time apparently, but i haven't found a solution on line yet.

Are you using usb 2 or 3?  Superuser site has this same issue listed and the fix implies the problem goes away if the hub plugs into  usb 2 ports indicating a usb 3 issue (maybe driver or even bios).

I'm using USB3, there are no USB2 ports on my Intel NUC.
