Microsoft All-in-One Media Keyboard not working on Windows 10?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can anyone help with this? Thanks.

Windows 10 version: 1909 (Build: 18363.815)

I've recently bought the Microsoft All-in-One Media Keyboard and was told the guy couldn't getting it working on Windows 10 but it worked on Windows 8.1 fine.

However, there are YouTube videos showing it used on Windows 10 and on Microsoft's official page for this keyboard here shows Windows 10 has full, not limited support.

  • The USB dongle is found fine.
  • I've clicked "Update Driver" on all the drivers in Device Manager for the Dongle and Keyboard.
  • I've installed the latest version (12.200) of the "Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center", although I don't believe this is necessary for the keyboard just to work.

Bizarrely "Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center" sees the keyboard fine and I can even customise it.

But no button works?

Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

You try going to the product page and install its drivers? Just not let Windows do it?

Just because it is a Microsoft product, doesn't mean that it will automatically work.

Edit; just looked, there is drivers you can download from microsoft's site: https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/products/keyboards/all-in-one-media-keyboard/n9z-00001

Have you tried different batteries in the keyboard? I've had a few that have arrived nearly dead.

Also, check the light on the keyboard, make sure it's staying on.

Hi,

Apologies I meant I first tried just plugging it in and when this didn't work I installed the Mouse and Keyboard Center.

New batteries out of the pack :(

The light does go off after a few seconds of being turned on but maybe it's supposed to do this 😕. It's not even mentioned in the paperwork.

I've since tried:

  • I've tried another USB-A port in the Hub (my PC only has USB-C).
  • My wired keyboard and mouse work using the same USB-A ports.
  • I've plugged the USB dongle directly into my work laptop, same problem.
  • I've tried the keyboard right next to the laptop and about half a metre away.
  • 2 weeks later...

How does it connect - wired or wirelessly?

If wirelessly, then what you likely need is Microsoft's Mouse and Keyboard Center.  (It supports Windows 10, and every wired - or wireless - keyboard OR mouse - including clones that can use their drivers; my Amazon Basics wireless keyboard replaced a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard that dates back to Windows 7 - because I couldn't find the right USB dongle to use with it.  I have two of these keyboards; however, the dongles are - literally - specific to each; you can't swap dongles.  I'll have to hunt up the other keyboard.  The two Microsoft Wireless Keyboards I literally found at HomeGoods' Mens' Accessories "dogpile" over a decade ago - they are full-sized ergonomic wireless keyboards (I fell in lust with ergonomic keyboards with the original wired Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite; the Wireless Keyboard, like the NKE, is full-sized).  The Mouse and Keyboard Center is in Microsoft's Software Downloads support section for Hardware.)

Followup (with hard data):

I found the OTHER of my two Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 6000 V.3s (the one that matches the transceiver dongle) - that and battery changes (two fresh AA batteries) and the current version of Microsoft's Mouse and Keyboard Center has it back in business.  The Logitech V220 Cordless mouse (which I got the same trip as both keyboards) will work with the Mouse and Keyboard Center as well - apparently, it is a true clone of the Microsoft Laser Mouse 2000 (which the software recognizes it as)  thus it WILL work with IntelliPoint Pro (not a surprise, since I used it with this same mouse  As I pointed out earlier, this keyboard dates back to Windows 7, as does the mouse; however, both can be used with Windows 10 sans issues.

Folllowup #2 : more data, including links to the apropos pages @ Microsoft.

Current Mouse and Keyboard Center for Windows 10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4051843/accessories-mouse-keyboard-center-download

Supports all Microsoft keyboards and mice dating back to Windows 7, and their true clones from other companies (examples include the Logitech V220 Cordless Mouse for Notebooks - recognized as the Microsoft Laser Mouse 2000).

The same page includes links to Mouse and Keyboard Center 8.2 (for keyboards and mice OLDER than the ones supported by the current Mouse and Keyboard Center);  it will install and work in Windows 10. Alternatively, you can install IntelliType Pro 8.2 (keyboards) and IntelliMouse Pro 8.2 (mice) instead of the respective Mouse and Keyboard Center.
