Is there a way to text message a cell phone through the computer without using ICQ?

Most cell providers have the feature on their website. Go to the website of the company that is providing the service to the cell you are trying to message. I know for a fact t-mobile has it. I'm not sure about the rest.

Certainly. Every carrier i know of (AT&T, Cingular, T-Mo, Sprint, Nextel) has the ability to do this on their webpage.

For quick access to Texting, get on AIM and send a message to a buddy named "+1areacodenumber" sans quotes. Ex: +15865551212

The message will be sent to their phone, and they'll even have the opportunity to send messages back to you.

I have verizon and vtext.com is where i go to text message. I do it from online because it costs me .08 to send and .02 to recieve so if i send on web to my girlfriend who is also on my plan, it only costs us .02 rather than .10... and after awhile those cents add up... i really need to purchase the text messaging feature for 2.99 for 100 text messages. Why can't it be unliimited though!!!

I hear you...its sucks...Mine is unlimited for now since I'm new to it

I made a webpage to do it for me, part of an ASP.NET application. It works with T-Mobile (my carrier) but if you wanted I could probably make one for you. Just IM me or something and let me know. The way I set mine up is to allow you to go to the page and tell it in querystring what you want it to send and to who, like: "tmobilesms.aspx?to=12345678910&from=bob&msg=bob%20says%20hi". Of course if you type directly into the address bar, you don't have to use %20.

Edit: By the way, it does use T-Mobile's website to send, that's why it only works with T-Mobile. The good thing is I can make anything access a page with a querystring much easier than I can make it visit a page and fill in fields and submit them. ;)

    • This keeps happening with Intel Arc drives, since intel keeps releasing newer non-whql revisions.
    • Is that the experience of a local account? I don't recall signing out of Edge being an option for them on Microsoft accounts. At the time, the MS default settings blocked 3rd party browsers like Chrome because they had no way to limit what was done without that browser. You are right, there isn't really a way to prevent someone from installing their own OS if they have local access to the system and the knowledge to do so. If someone is willing to go to the lengths of reinstalling an operating system, then you are really beyond protections like this. It would be like hoping a basic spring-loaded privacy lock can contain someone with lock someone with lock picking skills. My personal advice for a situation like that is that parenting isn't only about creating barriers, it is about growing, teaching, and trust. You don't want to see your kid as a hacker that you are trying to contain, you want to see them as someone who you trust to use a computer. If you don't feel that trust is justified, then maybe they shouldn't have unsupervised access to the computer. Even if you do have to set restrictions, there is an element of trust to those restrictions. When someone is grounded from leaving the house, you don't accomplish that by tying them down, you do it by setting expectations. The same applies to the digital world, you can set expectations that you expect them to follow, even if they are not digitally enforced. If they violate that trust, then the answer isn't to try different parental controls, it is to create consequences such as taking the device away for a few weeks.
    • I can't help but feel like MS is giving Windows 11 a spit-shine to get it ready for all the inbound displaced Windows 10 users. They still refuse to give people the things they actually want, but I guess they think silly options like this will at least make it look like they have options.
    • Yeah the the web safety you can just literally logout of edge or chrome and sign in as guest. Its kinda a joke. I went to extreme lengths with son trying to stop him even disabling usb ports, bios, recovery mode. He just took the side of case off reset bios and installed windows from a usb he got off a mate .
