getting started with my first equipment for a plex server...

Recommended Posts

I have a Qnap 2-bay server and a couple of 8Tb drives. I know how to setup for general use, but I want to have Plex on it. So I was wondering, would it be possible to run a Plex Server on it and use it for data backup at the same time? If so, any guides? Would this be recommended?

I don't see why not. There's nothing special needed for Plex, once you've installed it you just tell it where your files are located and it does the rest as far as I remember; I was using an ancient Dell laptop as my "media server." Dual core, 2GB RAM...

Anyway, you would basically just set up the server for general use, then install the Plex application as well. You might want to do some tweaks afterwards to try and get better streaming rates or whatever, but it really was one of those plug-and-play applications for me.
