I have been attempting to download and install a game via the windows store for the last 3 days and each time I attempt to do so, I get this error:

539462604_StoreError.PNG.015114c98f889d30e19d9b1c4535869b.PNG

I have reset the store and reset the computer, and the error still persists. Does anyone have any idea as to what this error means and how to fix it?

Do you have the new Xbox app installed?  Also the first one is 1-3 together, so why do you have chapter 2 listed at the end?   What happens if you got rid of the chapter 2 listing?

Gaming services is the issue. just like with windows update... once an update decides to fail, it is a pita to to fix.

I probably spent 4 hours last week trying to get it to install because after a few months using gamepass it decided the working version wasn't good enough anymore.

The windows store offers no tools to help and is the sole reason for the issue.

tbh I'm not sure how I finally solved the issue, I read many ways to not fix the problem online, rebuilding the store didn't work, store trouble shooter didn't work, completely uninstalling gamepass and the service didn't work and theres no way I'm reinstalling an entire os for a gaming service..

My final steps left before I just cancelled my gamepass instead was taking ownership of too many folder/files and deleting all references to gaming services in the registry that a guide told me about.

After a few restarts it still failed, after I gave up I got a notification that it got installed. 🤷‍♂️

If MS insist on using the same windows update delivery mechanism for everything then they need to add options when it fails, reinstalling the os as a workaround shouldn't be the recommended option.

If it's a multipart product it'll list the main package then any parts below that.

I figured, but I don't see chapter 3 listed there in the image.    I've installed a handful of games via the xbox app using my game pass sub without issue.  But It does it through the xbox app and not the store, even though the backend might be shared between the two.  So I'm wondering if he's got the app installed and if he's tried doing it through that?

If it's gaming services that's the problem you could uninstall and reinstall them and see if that works.

Open PowerShell as admin and then do.

get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage –allusers

start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

The store should open and you can try to install gaming services again on iit's own.

The error more or less means the base game isn't installed while it's trying to install chapter 2 before it, which is weird.    You could kill this 1-3 pack and go and download just the base game, which is free atm anyways.  Then try to snag chapters 2 and 3 individually instead of this 1-3 pack.

Before you start resetting more things, visit https://account.microsoft.com/devices/content and double check the information.  Verify that your current install is there.

OK, I did that and removed two old installations of my system

I tried to install chapter 1, and it says I do not have any applicable devices linked, same error happens when I try to install 1-3

Hello,

Just to check, no Windows 10 "debloating" or "update prevention" software has been run on the computer?  These types of programs will often break the Windows Store and associated apps because they disable the underlying software or prevent it from getting the updates required to use new applications.

No, this is a vanilla installation.

Weird, then it seems to be down to Gaming Services.  On my system that bit was updated back on the 28th of May.    I suppose you could go ahead and try uninstalling it and then re-installing it and see what happens?  TBH, and I know this sucks to say, I've never had that freeze up on me.  That specific service is updated often actually.     Have you also checked out the services.msc and stopped and restarted it?   In the services tool/list there's two of them, stop and restart them, or just stop them both and see if it'll finally update via the store and after a reboot they'll start up again on their own.

I've had pretty much this exact scenario (with Gaming Services and all) happen when updating Insider Preview builds (not the normal OS.)

...honestly I didn't know how to fix it after basically trying everything so I reinstalled my OS.  The internet ideas were 100% unhelpful.

(Though I hope something in here pans out.)

So I stopped both gaming services via services.msc, went to the store and told it to download the game, and suddenly it is downloading.,,

Fingers crossed it all goes well.

    • Lol I had one of these turn faulty in Jan, guess it wasn't just bad luck lol
    • I'm team Rossmann all the way. I have the exact same NVME, altough not in an array like him.
    • It had gone weeks ago. Although thinking about it I'm on the beta.
    • They thought value of their goods would forever only drop like it used to and didn't account for sudden increase in price because of all the Ai hype. Tough luck Samsung, don't try to weasel this one out. Also American customer protection laws are a**. In Europe, you need to be compensated for a functioning product of same or better characteristics (not same price point as when it was originally bought!) if it can't be repaired and when you receive a replacement product your warranty starts from scratch because you received a different item than you previously had and old warranty thus cannot apply to it anymore. If your actual item was successfully repaired, warranty gets extended for the period the item was in service. If item is repaired to a significant extent, warranty also starts over from scratch because major part of it was replaced. Americans need to fight to get this kind of consumer protections because they are constantly getting screwed over.
    • Microsoft releases new Windows 11 Media Creation Tool with the latest updates by Taras Buria Patch Tuesday updates arrive every month, bringing users new features and security updates. To make sure customers have access to the most recent images, Microsoft also releases updates to the Media Creation Tool app, its official utility for Windows 11 installation. Today, the company pushed new ISOs to Media Creation Tool, allowing you to create images with the June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates. With the latest update, the Media Creation Tool now downloads KB5094126. It is Windows 11 version 25H2, build 26200.8655, which is also available via Windows Update. Note that the app itself remains on the previous version, which you can check in Properties > Details. The only change is that it now downloads a more recent Windows 11 build, so the only way to check is to download an ISO. The June 2026 Patch Tuesday update is a special release for Windows 11, as it brings a new performance profile to make the operating system more responsive and snappier when rendering various user interface surfaces, including the Start menu, quick settings, and more. It does so by spiking processor speeds for a brief moment, resulting in higher loads for a second or two. The so-called “Low latency profile” is rolling out gradually, but you can force-enable it with the ViVeTool app. Other changes include webcam improvements, Task Manager updates, shared audio support, and more. You can download the Media Creation Tool app from the official Microsoft website using this link. Besides MCT, Microsoft lets you download Windows 11 ISO as a file directly from the official Windows 11 website. However, you will need a third-party app to write it to your USB drive. Check out this guide if you want to know how to do that.
