Using the backup file from old TP-LINK router in a new router from the same brand.

Recommended Posts

Hello. I want to upgrade from the TP-LINK AC 1750 old router that I am using as an access point to a newer model of the same brand which is the AX 5400 to be setup as an access point also. I am just wondering if I took the backup file from the old model can I use it in the new router and load all my settings? or there is a risk behind it?

Please advise me and thank you.

I doubt that would work to be honest..  But what could you have in the settings that would not take like 30 seconds to create from scratch?

Set your ssid and psk and some parameters maybe..

Disable the dhcp server since your using it as just AP.  Set its lan IP maybe.. If this takes you more than couple of minutes..

Your more likely to cost yourself more time trying to load a config from completely different device.. With different settings, etc. AC model isn't going to have anything for sure about AX settings that would be in your new router.  Interfaces and other variables could be changed as well from naming, and hardware type, etc.
