I make fun of myself all the time, multiple times per day but I also know people who could never make fun of themselves.

Absolutely all the time.  I'm a single guy in his 40s who essentially is a cartoon character of a human.  I do well for myself, I'm considered "successful" (whatever that means), but I do it all with an air of idiocy or cowboy attitude.  And I love to make light of this, I love to make people laugh, and if it's at my own expense I don't care.

 

And yes, I know people who can neither take a jibe nor would ever make fun of themselves.  Very VERY insecure people who strive so hard to project a façade that nobody believes.
