Safe to install chipset drivers from 3rd party sites?

Recommended Posts

I have an Intel HM370 Mobile chipset.

My Device Manager lists version 10.1.16.7 on this.

But on Softpedia I see there's version 10.1.18383.8213 out.

Is is safe to install this latest, Softpedia's, version? Do I benefit from it?

Or better stick to my current ones (provided by Asus)?

I'd avoid it personally. I trust softpedia for quite a bit but drivers (especially chipset level ones) I'd be a bit iffy to trust.

If anything I'd go to your computer/mobo OEM website and download their driver scanner or download Intel's driver scanner for just its pieces.

sometimes with those drivers even though they're newer it doesn't always mean they're meant for your specific model of chip or are stable with it. I trust the white/black lists of the vendor scanners themselves more than 3rd party ones these days.

Even the ones I did trust a few years back like IOBit have gone downhill, so I just stick with direct vendor tools now.

Thx. I'll just stick with the Asus' ones!
