Modern Games like Medal of Honour?

Recommended Posts

Got myself a nice new system with an nvidia 3070.

Saw a couple of games that looked like Medal of Honour and I was reminded how I quite liked Medal of Honour Allied Assault - not really the campaigns but the multiplayer.

Now I'm thinking whether there is a moden-ish version of a WW2 sort of first person shooter that isn't too difficult that I should look at?  Not really about the multiplayer (but give me AA back any day!).

I know there's CounterStrike but I don't think I got on very well with that at all (might be showing how long it is since I delved into these sorts of games!).

Cheers for the suggestions!

COD and Battlefield kinda took over the genre at this point. I've heard there are some new thing on the market - Hell let loose(i think it's called that), but my friends that played told me it's more like ARMA and all of those "realistic" war games. Haven't tried it yet, but can't go wrong with COD:MWII imo :D

Just to bring this to closure, played Call of Duty WWII and absolutely was bored from the first 20 mins.

10 mins of the start was un-skippable videos, then I couldn't get on with the half forced actions against what I was supposed to do in the first 10 mins of actually being able to move without the computer making me move.

Shame as it seemed pretty good.  Perhaps I will revisit again in the future but just too frustrating - I died before I moved as I'd gone to make a cup of tea while the videos played.  Also, no "training" per se and the "go here, then the computer will take over and play a little action, then all of a sudden, you're back to controlling" - I can't really be bothered to play like that.

I sank almost 2000 hours into Allied Assault back in the day... ah the memories. A friend and I used to adjust the single player campaign maps for coop and make them ridiculously hard. Battlefield 1 and V had some pretty good single player action and can be found for decent pricing lately.

Try COD: Infinite Warfare and Titanfall 2.

The latter seems like a COD entry in everything but name. You'll find out why when you read the credit roll. They are both short games.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 is more realistic and significantly better that its predecessor.

    • It won't perform hugely better than the 3080 unless you're VRAM limited in games. Have you tried putting new thermal pads on them 3080 and giving it a good clean to see if you can regain your temps and overclock?
    • Windows 95 offered the ability to add and edit the right click menus, on a per file type basis. This feature seems to be missing in the new file explorer. Are they bringing it back as a "new" feature?
    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
