Office 365 Renewal Failed with a Gift Card

Question

Well some reason my Office 365 renewal failed with gift card i had,  guess now gonna be spending time cleaning off Onedrive data, and figuring out a way to try again renewal,  disabled and don't have a debit card or credit card,   I really thought a gift card would've worked fine as usually its just like a Credit card or so i thought --waking up very sad today,  years ago when bought Laptop paid cash for 5 years of Office 365 keys,  wish i could afford 5 years again so i wouldn't have to worry on this issue

Might try a different gift card brand asap here and i guess go from there, probably my only option, or buy key cards again and renew that way as soon as possible

Though it appears it took money off the card,  Card Balance 0.14 left on it, previously was $113.87,   could it still be active, and site is reflecting it wrong, and i'm downloading all the Onedrive data for nothing,  finds the receipt confirmation for scheduled Office 365 payment and guess calls them later to verify on what should do next

Is there a question? If so we're going to need more information, like what was the gift card you tried to use? Where were you trying to use it? How do you know the renewal failed if the money has been taken from the gift card?

And take a break and re-read your post before you hit the "submit reply" button. The original post reads like a continuous thought from a racing mind, which is difficult to follow. ;)

Yeah I know, well checked card balance again, still says full amount, so didn't take it at all.

MInd in panic mode this morning. It was a pre paid gift balance gift card, knew these ones don't work worth nothing when family member got it for me, had trouble for other things with this brand in the past, have severe anxiety and think now this is triggering it this morning as well,

Guess if I get $100 gift card for Christmas that is different brand, I'll try that one with buying Amazon digital download, as I got also on there $5.00 Amazon gift card thru Microsoft bing rewards

For now guess gonna attempt to relax if i can

Says on office 365 renewal page scheduled payment failed, enter new card to continue services.   In Windows settings still says active thus far, cleaning off one drive files as fast as can

Originally bought at bestbuy with laptop purchase for 5 years in December 2017

Guess I'll call geeksquad number on confirmation page later I suppose

Even more difficult to read on the last post with a million lines between sentences!

How can someone not have a debit card unless they're a child? I don't mean any offence by that.

sorry typed the last reply with my Phone, and formatting got messed up, Severe anxiety kicking in as well, so a little bit uneasy so far, panic mode as well

Well when i setup my bank account in 2003,  due to my disability, bank wouldn't give me a debit card, so been without one for many years.

Gift card is Pre Paid Gift Balance card, value originally on Card $115.00,   Office Renewal price was $105.99 with tax,   balance says full amount still remaining

Anyways should i just call Geeksquad number on confirmation page later once i locate that print out, or will that be a waste of time?

Situation Resolved for this year!

Ended up just paying for a Digital download on Bestbuy.com,   that worked fine with this card lmao,    entered the key on the site, and renewed now for 1 year,   will just have to get another card in the future and tackle this the same way, and add on another year or 2 lol.

Much happier now, and relaxed now

Glad you're happier.

I would consider applying for a debit card again it could be even virtual seeing it's 20 years since you last tried.

Yeah gonna soon as can, and hopefully able to get one finally, then i can setup that card with Auto renewal, and won't have to go thru this hassle again.

Don't really have too many subscriptions--actually just 1,    as its a pain usually for me to renew stuff.

Typically i use MS Office 365 for the Onedrive storage of  purchased music when Microsoft used to have Xbox Music/Groove Music and Music for sale thru Windows store back in Windows 8 days, and i had a Windows Phone then, and grabbed all the free albums i could back then.      Word for documents, Publisher a little bit, and Outlook for Email needs typically

    • Microsoft admits one of the most crucial Outlook features is currently broken by Sayan Sen Microsoft is making some decent progress when it comes to Windows 11. Recently we have confirmed reports of some rather useful improvements landing in the next version of the OS, 26H2, wherein GPU driver TDR crashes may finally be fixed, plus the company is also allowing users to disable web content on the Search. On the Outlook front though things have not been so rosy. Last month in May we reported several problems affecting basic functionalities on the app. These included a problem where documents would open blank or corrupt themselves. Following that, Quick Steps, a very useful feature, would no longer work correctly, and finally, Microsoft acknowledged a problem wherein images would fail to load up properly inside the email. Microsoft had resolved those bugs later and almost exactly a month after we reported on them, the company has now admitted a new similarly basic issue, this time on Macs. Users recently started noticing that Outlook would no longer display email threads properly as the original message itself was not displayed. An affected user Tsoumpas, C (ngmb) nicely described the problem in a forum post they made on Microsoft's site. They wrote: "Description of the issue: After updating Outlook for Mac [Version 16.110 (26061317)] on 18/6/2026, replying to any email no longer includes the original message in the reply window. Prior to the update, replies correctly contained the original email text below my response. Expected behavior: The original message should be included in the reply, as in previous Outlook versions and according to the configured reply settings. Actual behavior: The reply window contains only a blank composition area (or only my response), with none of the original email text included." Obviously this must be a highly frustrating for users as noted by several in that thread. The post, at the time of writing, has also been upvoted by more than 40 users indicating that is a fairly widespread bug. Thankfully Microsoft seems to have acknowledged the problem right around that time as it opened a new issue on its official website. In the support article, the company recommends switching to Outlook for Mac from the legacy app, where the problem appears to be happening.
