Windows 11 wrong system folder name.

Recommended Posts

So I finally switched to windows 11 from Windows 10. I have always used a local account intead of an online account but figured I will just try out an online account this time since it is forced even on windows 11 pro ( I know their is a technical hack work around during setup ) but figured would try the online account for once.

My system folder under C:/users is named "norma"

My name is Norman not norma. All the other folders on my computer such as the home folder and one drive folder is named correctly as " Norman"

So I do not see how it could be a mistake under the cloud online account ( because at setup it does not ask for a name since its an online account )

Login shows my correct name. The photos/documents folder/one drive all show my correct name as Norman.

Just the C:/Users/Norma is showing the wrong correct name.

Anyone kwow why? THis is driving me crazy and I alread re installed windows 11 to see if it would fix it and my actual name on the onlne account is correct too

User folders created for MSA accounts are limited to 5 characters and the rest is truncated.

This is something that was bugging me as well since I returned to Windows a couple of years ago.

On my latest Windows 11 install I forced Windows into a local account for this same reason.

I believe there are ways you can modify your Windows Profile so as to rename your local folder, but when I researched for those I saw potential for things breaking after doing it.

My suggestion? Just ignore it and live with it like I did for two years or reinstall and force a local account then sign in into your Microsoft account normally.

Edit: Another thing you may do if you don't wish to re-install Windows and you still don't have much stuff done is to create another user local account with the desired name, then delete the original.
