Email : all shiny TLD taken, which would you pick among those ones ?

Hello,

I'm looking to create firstname@lastname .tld

Given that com, net, me, org, eu, and my ccTLD are taken... and that lastname(.)xyz ans lastname(.co) are over $1000

Would you rather go for :

  • firstname@lastname .pm
  • firstname@lastname .cc
  • firstname@lastname .pro
  • firstname@lastname .email
  • firstname@lastname .info

I'm not a fan of hi@firstnamelastname(.)com

thanks for your inputs 🙏  and if you have other ideas...

One thing I would advise is learn from my mistakes and either get a TLD for the country you live in or a .com, .net or .org.

The reason I say that is I had used a .eu for years, both for my personal blog and my email. Then the UK decided to leave the EU, which resulted in British citizens losing the rights to their .eu domains... so I lost my domain due to a political event out of my control.

I'm sure you can imagine the nightmare of trying to switch over anything you had ever used that email address with over to a new domain, then having to redirect my blog to another domain, eventually losing any backlinks I'd built up.

Some of the more vanity domains can be quite a bit to renew after the first year from what I've seen which is something to keep in mind.

Something else to consider is the entity behind the TLD reliable? could you one day lose the rights to the domain for a reason out of your control?

How is the more obscure domain perceived?  .co.cc has a reputation for spam and scams for example.

My last name is pretty common so I'd have no chance of ever getting lastname.tld, however i did manage to get firstlastname.uk and have various email alias at this domain, such as:

Its personal preference at the end of the day, however I'd be very selective with the TLD if purchasing another domain today.

Where are you seeing that .xyz are over $1K?

I have a .xyz and isn't anywhere close to that.. Namecheap currently has them for 2 bucks for first year.

Do you mean someone already has the domain you want in .xyz an they want 1k for it?

Can't you just change it up a bit, like fist initial lastname?

What about .net - those are normally reasonable - I have namebased.net domain that I have had for 20 years..  My renew is coming up, its currently 12$ a year.. The problem with the .email tld is pricey to renew.. namecheap wants 25, and dynadot wants 21..

This is often the case with more common names / names of existing websites I find.

Registrars essentially present the domain as available, however if you do a whois you will find someone else has already registered the domain and its actually for sale.

Neowin would be over £1000 to buy, however would then renew at £11 a year. I guess you could say the "premium" tag essentially means for sale by a third party:

If i was to buy my name as an .xyz it would be over £47,000! 😅

      Google's new hand-wave reCAPTCHA can be bypassed with a stock photo by Ivan Jenic Image: Screenshot Google is testing a new reCAPTCHA method that asks you to wave at your camera to prove you're human. So, besides solving puzzles and reading distorted text, you can now use your computer’s camera to pass the verification test. When the hand gesture verification is triggered, your browser asks for camera access and prompts you to perform a simple gesture, like a wave or an open palm. Google says it records a short video of the movement and uses AI to extract 21 hand-knuckle coordinates to complete the verification process. The video is then immediately deleted, and Google swears it doesn't keep it. The process alone can be uncomfortable for people who wouldn’t want their biometric data, which hand scans technically qualify as, recorded. But it gets even more nuanced, as early testers discovered that the new hand-waving reCAPTCHA can be passed with a simple stock image. A user on X tested the new challenge using a stock image of a hand fed through OBS Virtual Camera, and it passed. I wanted to verify it, so I tried the same thing. It took me a few tries and a few stock images, but in the end, I was also able to pass the test. I simply had to readjust the stock image of a generic person waving inside OBS, and Google’s mechanism registered it as a legitimate hand gesture. Once again, it didn’t even have to be a video or an AI-generated hand animation. Given the simplicity of the process, the entire action can be automated in minutes. All it takes is a simple Python script to render the new reCAPTCHA method obsolete. And it doesn’t even have to be an AI bot, which is usually used for solving puzzles and other verification methods. The new reCAPTCHA method is still in its early phase, and Google will, hopefully, update its AI to at least reject still images. However, this incident, combined with users’ initial skepticism about Google’s practices regarding user data, likely won’t make too many people wave at the camera anytime soon.
