Does disable the "Microsoft ACPI-... Battery" driver harm the battery/Laptop? I am always plugged in! I don't want to remove the (internal) battery.

all that would do is stop windows from talking to the battery controller, the controller will still auto charge and trickle charge the battery, this just provides information from it to windows so it can tell you when its on battery and what the charge level is

Thanks. You mean battery wouldn't be overcharged (heating and explosion!)?

shouldn't do that to start with... that's why you have a charging controller chip on your systems motherboard

If you want to limit the wear and tear on your battery while staying plugged in, go into BIOS settings and see if the laptop offers a way to disconnect the battery.

I know Lenovo and Framework laptops offer this.

Hello,

Unless you have a specific requirement to disable it, I would suggest leaving it enabled to allow for management/reporting of the battery's status to Windows.

Hello,

I don't have a laptop running Windows 11 handy, but can't that be toggled off under Settings → Personalization → Taskbar → Other System Tray icons in the Settings app?

Unfortunately, Microsoft decided to remove this customization option in Windows 11. There are a lot of complaints about it on Reddit, Twitter, and ... but they didn't do anything about it. You can't reorder (move) or hide these three tray icons in Windows 11: Network, Volume, and Battery!

Yeah this was a completely idiotic move on their part, now I have to have a battery icon in my system tray if I want to use my desktop system which is on AC 99.99% of the time when I have a UPS attached that is using the data feed to tell the system when it's on the UPS...

Interesting, I didn't know that. Connecting UPS to a Desktop PC causes the Battery icon to appear on the tray!

Technically you are on battery that is constantly being trickle charged. 😛

AFAIK, the UPS battery is outside the PC and has nothing to do with Motherboard 🤪. How the PC detects the plug source as a battery, and how can it grab the battery data 🤔

between a UPS and a system there is a serial connection usually or USB now

Some (all?) UPSes also condition the power, keeping it clean from sags and surges. That can only happen if running directly from the battery AFAIK.
