NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED Print Error

Recommended Posts

I have an HP connected to my Windows machine and is shared. I am trying to print from my Mac machine to Windows via my TCP/IP network. I am able to share files between the two machines and I am able to browse to and add the HP to my Mac via the OS X Printer Utility. However, after printing something, I get an error on my Mac that says NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED. Then after a while it says something about Samba.

Has anyone encountered this issue and does anyone have a method of printing to a shared Windows machine?

I have seen this before. The typical issue is that you need to specify a "userid" to make Windows happy, even though it is not used. If you have configured your printer via redhat-configure-printer, add a userid of guest., and if you have used cups, add change the "url" to smb://guest@workgroup/host/sharename

Someone asked about this a while ago, it was either with HP or Lexmark printers. Basically, he ended up calling the manufacturer only to be told that it's simply not possible with that company's printers. Hopefully it's not HP

Though, that error message makes me think it's an authentication problem.

I couldn't for the life of me get OS X to print to my Windows 2003 network share (it always gave me some sort of error like you have). I eventually just installed IIS and made the printer an IP printer ... I'd never done that before so it was a bit of a learning curve, but I eventually got it and it's been working great ever since. :)

this is a common either Samba error or CUPS, I am trying to resolve it myself but I finally got the printer to print from Vista to Samba :)

If I find anything out I will let you know

I don't think he'll care, since the thread is 4 years old and he hasn't visited the site since April 2007.
