Path-tracing game I've been working on solo for two years

Recommended Posts

Hi! Here's the teaser trailer and some info/screenshots for the game I've been working on solo for the past years. It's built from the ground up to use Path Tracing using a heavily modifed version of Quake 2 RTX's engine. Keep in mind it's still very early footage. Enjoy :)

The Game's Story

What started as a relaxing day off with your partner suddenly takes a turn when you find yourself waking up alone at the metro station of a creepy, abandoned complex owned by a mysterious megacorporation. As you search for your missing partner, you find yourself navigating through dark neglected hallways, unraveling the sinister secrets hidden within the complex and its surroundings...

About the Game

Drawing inspiration from retro classics like Deus Ex and System Shock, Incoherence is an immersive simulation set within the enigmatic confines of an abandoned complex. In this game, you'll delve into a world where exploration is key. Scour for hidden items that reveal the way forward and allow you to craft useful resources. Gain experience through your actions and unlock an array of skills and weapon upgrades, enhancing your ability to navigate the complex's many challenges. Master the art of controlling electronic devices, giving you a crucial advantage against the enigmatic inhabitants of the complex.

As you explore, the story of the megacorporation unravels through a rich blend of environmental storytelling and interactions with NPCs. Engage in conversations with the remnants of the corporation's employees, each character offering unique insights and pieces of the puzzle. Discover the narrative layers hidden in notes and emails left behind, piecing together the events that led to the corporation's downfall.

Key Features

  • Engage in an enthralling first-person perspective that fully immerses you in the game's world.
  • Arm yourself with an arsenal of classic weaponry, including pistols, shotguns, and more, each with unique capabilities.

  • Face off against a diverse array of monsters, each challenging you to adapt your strategy and combat skills.
  • Experience light RPG elements, featuring character level progression and an intricate skill tree system.
  • Customize and enhance your weapons with a variety of upgrades to suit your playstyle.
  • Engage in strategic repair and hacking activities to navigate obstacles and access critical information.
  • Craft valuable resources by discovering and utilizing blueprints scattered throughout the game.
  • Collect a wide range of items and junk, vital for survival and progression.
  • Dive into fully interactive computer terminals, rich with emails, files, and secrets waiting to be uncovered.
  • Gain the upper hand by accessing security terminals and camera systems to surveil your surroundings.
  • Discover hidden vents leading to secret rooms, revealing hidden aspects of the game's story and environment.
  • Purchase a variety of items from in-game shops using 'Bytes', our unique in-game currency.

Why Ray-tracing?

The gaming world has seen ray-tracing capable GPUs on the market for quite a while now, and we believe it's high time to harness their full potential. Our game merges these technological advancements with a retro aesthetic, reminiscent of classic games. Built on the Quake 2 RTX engine and completely open source, it showcases the power of ray-tracing by creating stunningly realistic lighting and reflections that breathe life into every level of our game. Optimized for performance, Incoherence runs smoothly even on first-generation ray-tracing hardware like the GeForce 2060 RTX. We're pushing the boundaries of gaming visuals, combining the latest technology with a retro vibe to offer players an unforgettable, immersive and spooky experience.

Supported Platforms

At this time, our focus is on releasing the game exclusively for Windows PC. However, we are actively exploring the potential of a Steam Deck version and will keep our community informed about any developments in this area.

  • +pmrd changed the title to Path-tracing game I've been working on solo for two years

I love the simpler art style paired with this gorgeous lighting (and in some cases well-placed lack of light). When used correctly it can end up being an unforgettable experience.

Lovely work and best of luck with the rest of development!

Here's a couple more screenshots since you guys are so nice :)

    • It could EASILY be 70 for the base game BUT + lots of FOMO to make it up to 100-120, like a few days Early Access, online money, pre-order bonus cars, weapons, missions, clothing, avatars or profile stuff, etc... And still WAY TOO MANY people would buy those and make Rockstar insane money.

    • WTF! Nah, not this one. If you were back then using computers in the 90s or you had a clue, you'd know this was huge and was seen and overused absolutely everywhere and you'd take this article as no more than a retrospective story. That's all it is.
