DOS boot disk with SmartDrive

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to install Windows XP from my hard drive by booting from a DOS floppy and running winnt.exe. The reason I don't want to install from the Windows XP CD is because I'm creating my own unattended/custom installation disk. If I install from the hard drive, I don't have to burn a new CD every time a make an alteration to it.

When I run winnt.exe (on my hard drive) from my DOS boot disk, Windows setup says:

Setup did not detect SmartDrive on your computer. SmartDrive will greatly improve the performance of Windows Setup.

It then gives me the option to continue without SmartDrive, or to quit setup.

Should I continue using the same boot disk (without SmartDrive)? Or is there somewhere I can download a boot disk that includes SmartDrive?

smartdrv is just a program, not a type of boot disk

download it from google or get it off an old win98 cd.

put it on the disk, it's small enough to fit on the same boot disk, then before you do winnt do a:\smartdrv.exe :D

oh man chip's challenge, jezzball, oh the memories! :shifty:

SmartDrv speeds up file transfers FYI. IF you run setup w/out it, the file copying could take up to 3 hours where as if you run with SmartDrv it would take the standard 15-20 minutes
