I used to walk to and from work, and it helped with my mental fatigue most of the time (though the physical fatigue comes in when you come home lol). It's also nice to take in some fresh air while wallowing in your thoughts.
I personally enjoy walking in general because it helps my mind relax.

I've been walking to and from work since 2020 now and feel it is really beneficial for both my physical and mental health, especially as I'm sat at a computer for 40+ hours a week when at work.

Originally I started when local Covid cases were getting quite high back in early 2020, after the first week of doing it I realised it wasn't actually that hard and I felt so much better for walking, so here I am still walking in 2024.

It takes approx. 50 mins to 1 hour to walk each way, so I'm getting near enough two hours exercise per day and only actually get home 15 mins later than I would have on public transport.

I'm not sure that I would say I "enjoy" walking, but if it's an option I tend to walk somewhere rather than taking a bus, taxi etc.

Like @InsaneNutterI used to walk to and from work unless I was running late, and that was about an hour each way. Unfortunately since I moved back to the UK I've been working from home, so the most exercise I get is if I take the dog for a walk or take a stroll to the pub. Speaking of...

I just started walking at work towards the end of March.  We have a treadmill that no one uses, and I'm trying to get into some healthy habits and drop some weight.  I end up walking on my lunch break, about 42 minutes total (37 with a 5 minute cool down) while re-watching Agents of Shield.  The episode lengths are perfect (hence the odd time) and it's like I'm not even working out.  Not only am I slowly losing weight (about a pound a week give or take) but my pants are a little looser and I just "feel" better overall.  I've never minded walking (I do it on vacation all the time) I've just never felt I had the time or place to do it on the regular, but now that I'm into the habit, it great.  I highly recommend it, especially for you younger folks.  It's a lot harder to build a good habit at my age, but it can be done!

Just an update on my July 2024 post.  Still walking, bumped up the pace and time a bit (44 minutes with a 5 minute cool down).  I've blown through several old TV series, and am now on a Sopranos rewatch.  I've lost a total of 71 pounds, cholesterol numbers are phenomenal, I have a ton more energy, and actually miss it when I don't walk!  It's just a habit now, and something that's part of my daily routine.

Hell yeah!

I know what you mean. I feel better after getting some (not all, unfortunately) of my steps in each day. I take longer routes to get to clients so that it adds up.

I've been taking weekly constitutionals on Saturdays for 28 years now and it's been fun.  Being witness to so many changes in NYC along my route...it could be seen as historical (the relocation of the CUNY Graduate Center to the old B. Altman department store on Fifth Avenue from the Grace building on West 42nd Street, the opening and closing of various stores and businesses, the construction of so many damned luxury apartment buildings and condominiums, just name a few).

It's definitely great exercise not only for the body, but the soul as well.

When i was younger i used to Mountain bike daily after High school,  as well as 30+ Minutes of walking around the High school hallways before class

I'll admit I've gotten lazier over the years,  got too expensive to maintain bicycle, plus local bicycle shop closed that could work on that model of bike,  so gave up that around 2010, and started PC gaming more and more,   got diagnosed with high blood pressure in 2013, and suppose to walk 30 minutes, but so far i haven't had the motivation to actually start and stick to it lol.

Maybe i will start next Spring walking more, perhaps use the Treadmill some during the Michigan Winter months,  and maybe cut down on eating fast food--like Taco Bell every 2-3 weeks lol, maybe just 1 more time when Grilled Cheese Flaming Hot Burrito is out on October 16th...

I have been walking more since the weather is cooling off. I'm averaging nearly 6300 steps per day based on the Samsung Health app. Since there's a storm and warmer weather coming this week, I'll have to use the treadmill to get my steps in. Keep going everyone! You go this!

Unless someone has a physical disability, people should not spend 5 mins driving around a parking lot trying to park as close as possible to the entrance of a store.

People are weird

i was living in a condo with a gym

there was a problem with elevators often. So we had one working one instead of 3.

there was a gym on second floor

2 girls in sportswear always stopped the elevator on forth floor - stopping the traffic and got in - to get out on second floor to go to gym - and what did they do there - ###### STAIRMASTER

i also seen people drive (in good summer weather for 1 block to go to a store - healthy people who can walk - crossing the street and parking took them longer then just walking over

as I said - people are weird

By the way

i I want to mention that walking a lot is proven to be healthier then sports that can cause injury and outside of specific yoga practices or qi gong… this is the best investment in your health. Just walk a lot and compared to most people you will be healthier

Impressive. Is that on a treadmill or outside? It takes me about an hour to do 6000 steps outside.

Outside, i get bored on a treadmill and feel like I'm not doing enough. I walk all year round, only heavy rain or to much ice stops me.

So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets. The Epic Games Store's mystery giveaways may have ended, but its regular freebies didn't miss a step this week. The double drop was for copies of Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King. Speed Freeks lands for multiplayer racing fans, but with plenty of competitive shooting elements too. You will be piloting Ork buggies, tanks, and aircraft modeled after the popular tabletop miniatures while trying to complete objectives and pass finish lines. Next, Ouroboros King is a crossover between chess and tactical roguelikes, offering the chance to create your own army with special rules to beat incoming foes on the board. The double giveaway on the Epic Games Store will be available until June 11, and replacing it will be Citizen Sleeper and ROBOBEAT. The Humble Store brought a new charity bundle to check out this week too. • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!

    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
