iCloud for Windows and Media Feature Pack on Windows 11 [N version of Windows?!]

Apparently, iCloud on Windows (via Microsoft Store) had an update, and now it's asking for a Media Feature Pack for N-versions of Windows.

 

But... I don't have any. I'm running Windows 11 Pro.

The help-file of Apple states to 'Turn on Windows Media Player' from the old Control Panel, but this box has been ticked on on.

Plus is already added via System > Optional features as suggested by Microsoft:

What to do to make this message disappear?

Please note in System > Optional Features Windows Media Player ≠ Windows Media Feature Pack.

Something you may have luck with is using the powershell command "add-optionalfeature". When i get back to my desk i can write out the whole command.

Edit: the command i use to enable MFP during imaging is as follows:

get-windowscapability -online | where-object -property name -like "Media.MediaFeaturePack" | add-windowscapability -online

you could try downloading and installing it from microsoft:-

 

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/mediafeaturepack

or via powershell 

Get-WindowsCapability -online | Where-Object -Property name -like "*media*" | Add-WindowsCapability -Online

Thx. Kinda funny that on other W11 computer I don't get this message. With - as it seems - the same MS Store version of iCloud :wacko:

The regular download-link gives:

And the PowerShell command doens't do anything. Even after a restart.

Is this a bug of some kind?? Can I just ignore this?

That just means you already have it installed or it is not for the version of windows you have.

Could it be a bug or an issue with the store version of iCloud. I have had similar issues with software in the past and had to install the non windows store version.

Here's how to get things working:

Check your Windows version: Open Settings > System > About. Look for "Windows 11 Home N" or "Windows 11 Pro N" to confirm it's an N version.

Install Media Feature Pack:

Go to [Microsoft website for Media Feature Pack] (search for "Media Feature Pack for N versions of Windows 11").

Download and install the appropriate version (32-bit or 64-bit) depending on your system.

Restart your computer.

Download and install iCloud for Windows: Head over to [Apple iCloud for Windows download page] and download the installer.

If you're not using an N version of Windows 11:

Great news! You don't need the Media Feature Pack. Simply download and install iCloud for Windows directly from Apple's website.

Bonus tip: If you encounter issues with iCloud after installing the Media Feature Pack, try enabling the "Windows Media Player (legacy)" option within the Media Features section in Settings > Apps & features > Optional features > Add an optional feature.

By following these steps, you should be able to get iCloud for Windows up and running smoothly on your Windows 11 system, regardless of whether it's an N version or not.

So the requirement has now disappeared and you are able to install icloud?

Maybe it required a reboot for it to confirm it had been installed

Plus installing the:

* VP9 Video Extensions
* Web Media Extensions
* HEIF Image Extensions
* HEVC Video Extensions [paid]

      Apple reportedly looks to blacklisted Chinese memory chips as RAM prices climb by Karthik Mudaliar Image via Apple Apple is reportedly trying to get a clearance from the Trump administration to buy memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) to get some relief from soaring DRAM prices. As per a report by the Financial Times, Apple approached the Commerce Department more than a month ago and also spoke to other officials and allies in Washington. For starters, CXMT is a company that's already been placed on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies. The Chinese company is the country's top DRAM maker. For Apple, the timing is certainly awkward but not surprising. Tim Cook had recently warned that Apple would have to raise prices because AI companies are buying up large amounts of memory for data centers, and just like that, Apple raised MacBook and iPad prices. Micron also recently revealed that customers have committed billions of dollars to secure memory supply years in advance, which shows us how aggressive securing infrastructure has become. This gives suppliers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron more leverage, while pushing hardware makers to look for alternatives. CXMT is one of those alternatives, but not the simplest one. Apple has spent many years trying to diversify parts of its supply chain away from China, especially for final assembly, while still depending heavily on Chinese manufacturing and suppliers. Even domestic brands from China are moving towards CXMT and YMTC instead of relying on Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix. For Apple, though, it would invite more scrutiny than local Chinese companies. For now, this is more like a lobbying effort rather than a confirmed supply deal. There's no official statement from either of the parties. What is clearer, though, is the pressure behind such a request. AI demand has certainly made hardware a bottleneck, and companies are trying everything they can to bring things back to normal, even if that means making politically sensitive choices.       The iFlyTek AINote 2 is among the thinnest E-Ink tablets. It has an EMR stylus, a built-in fingerprint reader, and plenty of built-in AI features. You had me until "and plenty of built-in AI features." That and any company that still does the iProduct naming trope is an immediate pass. It suggests the company isn't very imaginative or creative and is trying to piggyback off another company's success. Extremely lame. Also kind of expensive. Better choices at lower prices out there.
