Beware of MyGermany.com but Mailboxde is good!

Recommended Posts

Looks like I have been scammed out of my order. I was looking for a service that would ship web purchases that are only able to ship to German addresses to be delivered to me in the West of The Netherlands near Amsterdam, which is cheaper than driving to Germany and back.

For example 200 cigarettes in Germany costs €88 and in NL the same ones cost €105. So even the proposed shipping costs would save money if enough are ordered. For now I was just doing a "trial run" to see how and if it works, and it looks like I've been scammed out of the order.

I chose Drop Shipment, which means that when the shipment is received, it is immediately forwarded to the recipient. This is what they say on the website about how Drop Shipment works:

Received packages will be forwarded directly the same day we receive them. No time-consuming opening, checking, repacking, consolidation.
Thus you save 20% compared to our standard shipping rates!

Emphasis, mine. Same day forwarding.. However my order hasn't changed from the day I entered the details a week ago.

Proof of delivery Friday morning (26 July)

They have a mostly positive score on TrustPilot, but the reviews are a mix of super positive and super bad warning others that it is a scam.

I stupidly believed that it was a few disgruntled customers, but now I have proof that they probably do the reviews themselves. I saw a review posted 2 days ago about an experience from Feb 8 2024, random??

They don't allow anyone to reply to their posts on social media https://x.com/mygermanycom https://www.facebook.com/mygermanycom/ another red flag tbh..

Received a reply from a contact form message I sent in 2 days ago, asking why the order had not been updated

Hello ,

Thank you for reaching out and providing the details. I apologize for the inconvenience and delay you’ve experienced with your order.

August is indeed the holiday season in Germany, which can result in delays as some of our staff are on leave. We are doing our best to process all requests as quickly as possible.

Please allow us a little more time. As soon as we process your shipment, you will receive an email with the tracking number and updated status.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,
Kate

Still does not answer how someone was able to sign and receive my shipment and it wasn't forwarded as Drop Shipment, according to their own website, which is a same day turnaround (thanks to not having to manage/repackage the shipment).

OK, something happened. I just got an email that the order is ready to be shipped.

€22 with DPD which is lower than I expected.

Lets see what happens.

Prepared to eat my hat for being wrong, but this is by no means a quick service like it advertises.

  • Steven P. changed the title to Beware of MyGermany.com

OK two weeks after I ordered, I finally received the package. I updated the title, but I don't think i will be using them again.

I will give mailboxde a go @Somand report back, because the savings are worth it (if it works)

i've always found https://www.mailboxde.com/ to be good, got a kayak delivered through them once

Trying them now, will let you know how it goes.

This is why I smoke natives now instead of retail, retails for a pack are like $18 cad after tax now, my natives work out to be about $1.4 per pack :D

Mailboxde received the package yesterday and it is being forwarded today via GLS. (they forward shipments between 1pm and 2pm daily)

I paid a bit more for "automatic dispatch" (€7.90 per year) which means it auto forwards on the cheapest option (non priority shipping) and this shipment will cost me €12.99, which so far, is working out cheaper than MyGermany at €22.

Edit: It is now showing as shipped :)

  • Steven P. changed the title to Beware of MyGermany.com but Mailboxde is good!

Just want to give props to Jan at Mailboxde.com

Basically I ordered something on Amazon.de and didn't realize that the German Mailboxde address was selected. Reached out to them and they worked with me to return it to Amazon using the return label from Amazon.

Great service!

At least it worked out for you in the end... I am on day 4 waiting for a response because once they received my parcel, the estimated shipping cost went from €44 to needing to pay €9999 regardless of shipping service selected. This is for a parcel weighing 0.2kg. Definitely beware.

@Steven P., I suspect @InsouciantSoul was telling about MyGermany.com (the screenshot is cropped, but the colors seem to match MyGermany.com design rather than Mailboxde.com). While you, I assume, replied about Mailboxde.com?

Yeah I was posting about my experience with mailboxde.com :)

    • AI will never be the jobs panacea some companies fantasize about today. Oracle is likely using it as an excuse, which we will see a lot of companies doing, I'm certain. They love their "plausible" excuses for their downturns. A couple of weeks ago my wife asked me to call Krogers about some discrepancy in a online grocery order, and it will be the last time either of us does that. I'll just do emails with humans from now on... The AI experience was horrible--the obviously recorded voice started asking a bunch of questions about our orders six months prior(!) and saying, "Is this in reference to your order on January 6, for $****?" You say "No!" and immediately the next question is "Is this in reference to your order on January 29th, for $****?" again, I answered "No!"--and it was incredible--on and on it went like that for fully 20 minutes until we finally got to the present, and only then was I put through to a human with authentic intelligence... I wondered why on Earth the idiot AI didn't start with the most recent orders and work back from there, as it was something anyone with a functioning brain would have done. And why didn't the AI have enough sense to ask me what the problem was in the first place? It didn't take too much deduction to understand that the goal of this "AI" was to cause the person on the phone to hang up in disgust, with no resolution of the problem. That begs another question: why pay for a tool-free problem line if the goal is to avoid solving your customer's problems?... Fortunately, Krogers does have real humans capable of reading an email and understanding it, and if she sees another situation in the future that's route she or I will take. The online grocery delivery service from Krogers has been great, over all, but their AI truly sucks.
    • AI is the justification that company administrators use to lay people off; it is not the end all, be all touted in the media (many of whom can't tell a microchip from a potato chip). Greed is main driving factor behind its adoption; the other is remaining relevant in the face of competition from other entities.
    • Firefox 152.0.2 is out with fixes for performance, translation, and cloud storage services by Taras Buria A new bug-fixing update is now rolling out to Firefox users in the Release Channel. Less than a week ago, Mozilla fixed crashes on Intel Raptor Lake processors with version 152.0.1. Now, Mozilla has prepared yet another set of fixes that address problems with localization, playback issues of certain MP4 files, and performance issues on website that perform various encryption operations at once. Here is the full changelog: Firefox 152.0.2 is now available for download from Mozilla's FTP. Existing installations will get the update over the next several hours. The latest version will also be available soon on the official website, the Microsoft Store, and Neowin's Software page. You can find Firefox 152.0.2 release notes in the official documentation. The latest feature update brought reworked settings with a more streamlined user interface, JPEG XL support, new features for Private mode, a new way to mute a tab (just type "mute" in the address bar), and many more. You can find the complete changelog here. In other Firefox news, Mozilla recently published its roadmap, where the company detailed the upcoming Nova redesign and other features it plans to implement.
