Richard Dewey Hammers
I'm experiencing an odd clicking or vibrating sound coming from my Gigabyte 4070 Ti Super when the fan speed reaches around 70%. I've recorded the noise, but you need to turn up the volume significantly to hear it. I've tested by stopping each fan individually with my finger, and the sound persists with all the fans. Could it be that the airflow is hitting something inside the GPU? Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted December 2, 2024 Global Moderator Share Posted December 2, 2024 Yeah, fan whining. It happens. It's not like it's hurting your system. It's just annoying. If you can get those fans off, you might be able to oil them. I'm not 100% sure if that is the answer. Someone else? I think I have to remove the whole backplate to remove them which would be a huge pain. They are pretty dusty and I have only had the GPU now for 8 months now. Just put your headset on, blast it, and ignore the fan whining. hellowalkman Reporter Posted December 2, 2024 Reporter Share Posted December 2, 2024 lock the framerate to somewhere around the max refresh rate of your monitor if the GPU is outputting way higher. Richard Dewey Hammers
Its not too much of a issue as I only hear it if I open my PC case. Its just driving my OCD up the wall wanting to Know what that sound is being casued from. There a way you can get just those fans RMAd? I think there is a way to detach them, but I've never had to take them off, soo.. Ya I could RMA it but then means I will be without a GPU for a few weeks. I looked up how to switch out the fans for new ones but for my GPU I would need to remove the whole backplate off which means having to re-paste it after. It seems like a big pain haha. Richard Dewey Hammers
@MindovermasterAlso Im trying to set a good Fan curve for the GPU so I will only hit the higher fan speeds when im warmer. Makles perfect sense It isn't really that hard to remove the shell, just time consuming. Get a can of compressed air and blow out all the dust on the card (as best as possible). It might not help, but it's worth a shot. goretsky Supervisor Posted December 4, 2024 Supervisor Share Posted December 4, 2024 Hello, Given that the card is still in warranty, I would recommend going the RMA route. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, but I’d be without a PC for a few weeks, and since I work from home and don’t have a backup GPU, that wouldn’t be ideal. Also, I noticed something new while playing Subnautica today. Could this be coil whine from the GPU? The sound comes and goes, while the other constant noise you hear is from my pump. I even stopped all the fans, and the sound was still there. Mindovermaster Global Moderator Posted December 4, 2024 Global Moderator Share Posted December 4, 2024 Are any of your case fans the culprit? Or your CPU heatsink fan? goretsky Supervisor Posted December 4, 2024 Supervisor Share Posted December 4, 2024 Hello, It sounds like disassembling the video card to get at the fans is non-trivial, and there are several risks involved, including (1) permanent damage to the card; and (2) lubing the fans may not improve the noise and/or even make things worse. Perhaps check with Gigabyte to see if there is an expedited RMA process available where they can cross-ship you a replacement card? Another possibility might be to get an inexpensive card to use just so the PC has basic graphics functionality while you wait for the replacement to arrive. You might not be able to run all of your favorite games on it at the resolution you like, but you would otherwise be able to use the PC for productivity tasks and perhaps some basic gaming. Richard Dewey Hammers
So going from what I said before yes it 100% is Coil Whine that im hearing but I noticed it only happens when my GPU is pushed up to around 144+ Frames. If I cap all my Games to 60 Frames the Coil Whine is Pretty much Gone and it also help keep the GPU and lot cooler which means I wont have to run the Fans as hard. I noticed the Coil Whine Really starts up once the CPU Voltage hits over 1.1 Volts.
