Korn's "Y'all Want A Single" Video

Recommended Posts

Midway through Korn's new "Y'all Want a Single" video, the words "The record company wanted us to change this video ? we didn't" flash on the screen. It's not a joke.

"They locked us out of our own editing booth," singer Jonathan Davis said at Thursday's announcement of the Projekt Revolution Tour in Hollywood. "It's been crazy, the [uproar caused by]this video. That's what we like to do, though. We got to go up there and put our ass on the line for artists."

"Y'all Want a Single," the second release from Korn's recent Take a Look in the Mirror, is an angst-fueled, expletive-riddled protest against the record industry. The video is even harsher.

"It's gonna cause a big stir in the music business, period, because it's basically a video about us destroying a record store, and all this different verbiage comes up talking about how really corrupt the music industry is," Davis said. "We're just asking for it with this video, and it's pretty amazing. We're really excited about it."

Epic Records, Korn's label, did not immediately respond to a request for comment

IMO, it stinks. KoRn is mad about their last record's sales when bands that are arguably better than them have yet to earn the TOTAL sales for all of their record that "Untouchables" got. Now that they're not the main focus of their record company's attention, either, they're mad. Cry me a river... I bought the album, but only because it's good. Not because they need money.

Apollo -- that's "Right Now"'s video.

Hmm ya know, Korn is past it's prime, it's been past it's prime with Issues, well Issues it was kinda in it's prime but slowly loosing it. Now with this new CD it's almost totally lost it, yes their angry but they've been angry for years.

As for that song how cute! They are making a single out of an "anti-single" song with the F word in it every 5 seconds almost literally, why I can't wait to hear it! "Yall want a single, say ---- that"x1million, it'll be great!

Korn? You can digest Korn its what you poop out and get washed away somewhere. Maybe it's time they went away.

I love the new Korn stuff. It's him just being ****ed about things again and letting it out. Props to Johnathan for using his music to vent his feelings instead of writing generic lyrics that flood the one hit wonder rock bands today.

You only get to do things like that when you kick ass. Love the son;);)
i love the new korn stuff so much better then untouchables,

Ditto.

The new CD is more of a move back to the OLD Korn - Korn album and I love it. After Korn - Korn they just got worse with this release I actually bought the cd. The rest I just d/l'd listened to and deleted after 5 minutes they were trash. Only 2 albums I own from them Korn - Korn and This one Take a look in the mirror. Grabbin the vid now will be nice to see it.

Erm: they didn't plan on making it a single. The record company did. There's no way they could stop them from it.

thx for the link.

this is a good video. they make some very valid points. i love "do you download music" "steal this video" and all that.

they seem really ****ed of at the industry. f the industry.

Yeah, f all the big corporations. Who needs big corporations? F them... We're all so opressed. KoRn speaks for the opressed world!

...Sorry, but I don't agree at all. These statements have BEEN made numerous times by bands years ago. KoRn just decided on doing it now because the record company isn't pumping their publicity and giving 'em money for videos.

horrible song. its funny how korn talks about "does this sound like a formula to you" in the video yet they have stuck with the same formula themselves as far as making music and its just about done...

however with that being said, damn good video. i have to respect them just for the fact they made the video and what they are saying within it. nothing but props for that aspect. again i could go on about how they know its trendy to attack the music business right now, so they themselves are using what is trendy to showcase what is a horrible song, etc. etc., but ill leave it as thinking they are sincere and by saying props to them for the video and its overall message...

korn was always one of the best bands EVER. and i truly mean it. they were the ones inventing and reinventing music, band that started a lot of things, a band that stands up for their fans.

if you didnt know, yall want a single was voted to be the next single by fans.

they just amaze me.

as for the music, the only album i didnt like was untouchables. every other was just to unique to compare with the other one.

I never really cared with the industry did to monopolize music and make profitable singles because I haven't listened to that sort of garbage for years. However, I'm becoming increasingly concerned lately because many of these tactics are beginning to spill over into the type of music that I do listen to. The "single" off of Dimmu Borgir's latest effort, Death Cult Armageddon, titled "Progenies of The Great Apocalypse" had a rather good video made for it that made it onto airwaves here in the US, namely on Fuse's "Uranium" and MTV2's "Headbanger's Ball" programs. This would normally make me happy, but the song is shortened from 5 1/2 minutes to just under 3 1/2 as the Korn video states is the "average" length of single tracks. I feel that Black Metal, Progressive Metal, and other sorts of great music are ready to make it big, but the question is is that what's really good for the genre? I couldn't bear to see some of my more favorite artists such as Opeth, Darkest Hour, Dream Theater, Iced Earth, In Flames, etc. each go down this path. For those reasons, I hope that real metal and progressive music always remains true to its fanbase and as more of a "novelty" for those not welcome.

    • You're absolutely right! No reason in hell these should be on the road!
    • They aren't going to want to. Most would just go with the 17 Pro and save money. Why would they want to spend $300 for basically the same thing? It's not worth it if there are hardly any changes from year to year.
    • 24H2 rolled out to the Release Preview Channel in early June 2024, so this coming a bit later in the Experimental Channel (formerly Dev) doesn't really say much more than earlier H2 releases that came out in October. I am not sure what the thinking is here by putting it in Experimental, one would think that the 26H2 stamp means features are locked down and it's now bug tested until October? I don't even pretend to understand Microsoft's strategy for Windows Insider Program though
