Scan Pre Order Tracking - Funny Business (Not so funny)

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here have a pre-order item that SCAN UK allows you to track the progress of your order. This is the 3rd time i have checked the status mid day-ish , showing i have came down the list by a few numbers. Then at around 5pm i seem to be 4 or 5 places higher up the list again.

Late morning today i was at position 83 , now come 5pm im up at 87.

Over the past month its been adjusted 3 times and between the 3 of them i have lost 20 places.

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing something similar ?

No, but SCAN have been around for a long long time and have a pretty good reputation.  I've used them myself several times over the years.  If you're concerned, contact them about it.

I did have until I finally made it to the top of the queue and got my shiny new GPU. They did indeed update it wrong a couple of times, it seems they update their GPU pages at 5:30 ish every night and the figures in the morning the next day are usually accurate. I think the whole thing is being confused with them offering people models from different brands and not updating the queue position accurately. They also didn't give me a proper ETA until I was in the last 5 on the queue, having said all that the fact they even give you a queue position at all puts them way ahead of all the other UK etailers.

Overclockers had stock nearly all day/night yesterday on around 10 different cards. Way more expensive than the pre order price i paid at Scan though :/

Yeah, I was getting close to the point of ordering from OcUK and then just flipping my Scan pre-order when it turned up but as you say their pricing was quite a step up. I can only think they're paying a premium to get first dibs on cards from the distributors (as well as making a bigger profit).

What card did you order?

My Scan countdown was originally 23, dropped to 19, 18, 11, 9 and then seemed to just halt for a week or so.  In that time, I saw a better model for like £30 more that they had immediate stock of - so just swapped out and paid the extra.  Scan are a GREAT company, they've been around for ages and I have dealt with their customer service dept (in useful ways, not complaints) from back when they were tiny to now - and they have ALWAYS been super helpful!

I placed an order with Scan (for a Palit Gamerock) when they actually said it was available/in stock on launch day (no pre order system). Then emailed them shortly after asking why my order had went from being a proper order to becoming a pre-order and they claimed it was an error on their part. Then all this nonsense of the numbers coming down and going back up multiple times. Maybe thinking they would have put me at the front of the queue after making/admitting the error i started off in something like 132 :/

Im thinking the card they had sold me online was sold over the counter on their in store launch day event they held, but that's just a guess.

Just going to have to ride it out now as these cards are retailing for £300 + more than the price they were when i placed my order.

Never actually had any issues with them , apart from this terrible 50 series launch.

Oh come on, you’re projecting onto Scan when you knew inside it wasn’t gonna be available there and then! Stop making up stories!

Really ? so the in-stock available button in green , order confirmation and subsequent email from scan customer services admitting error was me "Projecting". Get a grip ............ not everything people post online is made up or a lie.

Yea. Everyone knew what it was gonna be like on day 1. And from running an e-commerce store for nearly a decade I know how it works. Items have stock until they don’t - and that “until” is a very short period of time when the world is trying to buy new items.

You talk about then hoping to get bumped up the call? Come on man, you knew the score and you’re just telling tales!

Since you "claim" to be coming from an e-commerce background, you should know there is a thing called stock control and what you do/don't have available for sale. Everyone knew they were available in single or low double double digits on release day , which was obviously when i pressed the "BUY" button , not the pre order button or fake stories button.

My delivery day was stated as the 31st Jan on my order confirmation , but again that will be nonsense that i made up for a forum post.

Scan subsequently admitted the error , so i really don't understand how i "knew the score".

Mistakes happen , they admitted that, I accepted that ....... it was the going down the ladder then back up was what my original post was about.

While we are on the subject it seems like Scan have a history of repeating the same errors over and over. Selling stuff they don't actually have ..........

Quick Google search returns "MANY" people with the exact same story as mine from 4 years ago .......... maybe i manipulated time "knowing the score"

Im the same , for around £50 more i could have had the same card from Overclockers next day .......... but i got SCAM'd as some put it........

I know all about it thanks.  I'm not saying the initial error wasn't theirs - I'm saying you knew this was likely and you're trying to capitalise upon it!

My initial delivery date was also shown as the 31st, then early the week after Scan have never been the best at knowing what's coming in when. I had similar issues with an Asus router (gave up and ordered from Amazon in the end) and workstations I've ordered for work. What I would say is they're extremely friendly and helpful and a properly independent company who actually care about their customers.

The fact you're getting queue updates at all is better than anyone else in the UK market sadly.

The green button order turning into a pre-order is unfortunate at best and incompetence on their part at worst. Ordering a 5090 on launch day, there wasn't even a green button to be seen for me, despite refreshing on multiple computers, it went straight from coming soon to notify me then available for pre-order some hours later. Of the three of us in my office who ordered a launch day 5090 card I'm the only one who has received mine so far; the other two don't even have a reliable ETA yet.

What's annoying is there was stock (not all the same brand & very limited) on a few retailers on launch day , Scan was slightly cheaper and i chose them from 3 of the sites that had stock showing at that point in time. Friendly or not Scan will right now be sitting with literally millions of peoples pounds gaining interest on stock they never actually had in the first place. Yes if you are willingly being sold a pre-order then that's acceptable and part of the deal. When they seem to do this consistently it would appear that error is no longer part of the process, its a deliberate ploy. They have nothing to lose either way , you cancel after a 3 month wait and they still got interest on your/everyone else's cash in that time. Plus there will be someone there to buy that card when its available, or enter into another pre order process.

Stock control on apples will be quite loose and subject to being wrong. When it comes to 2k and 3k computer components im sure there wont be any errors. Taking orders , giving delivery dates and then sending out an email the following day saying they are sorry does not go hand in hand with running a good business that's customer focused.

Overclockers have had stock appearing the past few days at random times without announcement (with higher prices though) , if any of your colleagues are desperate.

How is it possible to capitalise on placing an order for an in stock item ?

The last thing i wanted was any type of hassle after placing an order, like im sure everyone does.

It would have been a nice gesture to place someone whom you had failed on an order near the front of the queue. I never expected to be first , but it was something like 133. If only they stuck strictly to pre order only then we would not be on here chatting about this :)

At the end of the day, things are always going to get funky for such a hot ticket item on launch day, for pretty much all retailers.  Hell, to preorder a Switch 2 from Amazon you have to ASK them to invite you to preorder! 😮

    • Microsoft further improving Windows 11 Taskbar with latest builds by Sayan Sen Microsoft has released new Windows 11 builds for users flighting the Experimental channels. The new builds are 26300.8758 for Windows 11 26H2, 28120.2374 for 26H1, and 29617.1000 for future platforms. There are improvements related to the Taskbar, File Explorer and more with the new update. The full changelogs are given below: First we have the build 26300.8758: Changes and improvements gradually being rolled out [Taskbar] Taskbar customization just got easier. As we continue to make improvements to the Taskbar experience mentioned last month, we've introduced a dedicated Taskbar Size setting, making it simpler to find, understand, and personalize your ideal taskbar experience. UI showing the new Taskbar Size setting in Settings. We've also made refinements to the transitions between taskbar sizes for a smoother overall experience. [File Explorer] We've improved the reliability of thumbnail previews for cloud files in the Details pane. The pane has also been reorganized so file properties are easier to find and review at a glance. Fixed an issue where the OneDrive shortcut in File Explorer stops working when File Explorer is run in administrative mode. Fixed an issue where the confirmation dialog might display an internal Recycle Bin file name instead of the original file name when permanently deleting a file. [Sounds] Improved system sounds when using Windows in dark mode. Up next we have build 28120.2374: Changes and improvements gradually being rolled out This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes [Mobile Device Settings] You can add and manage your mobile devices in Settings under Bluetooth & Devices > Mobile Devices. On this page, you can manage features such as using your device as a connected camera or accessing your device's files in File Explorer. [Remote Recovery Management] Added a recovery remote management plug-in to extend WinRE management capabilities for MDM providers. [Input] The emoji panel (Windows key + period (.)) now uses GIPHY as the GIF provider, delivering a smoother GIF browsing and sharing experience following the deprecation of the Tenor API. Finally we have the changelog for Windows 11 build 29617.1000: Changes and improvements gradually being rolled out [Windows Update] As announced in the Windows Update announce blog, we are now bringing a new unified update experience to reduce the number of reboots you see per month. We are starting by coordinating driver, .NET, and firmware updates to align with the monthly quality update, reducing the update experience to a single monthly restart. See the blog for more information. [Windows Magnifier] Magnifier now gives you more control over how you zoom. You can type an exact zoom percentage directly in the magnifier toolbar to land on precisely the level you need. We've also added preset step increments (5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 150%, 200%, and 400%) to the Settings dropdown, so you can jump to common levels in a single click. Whether you need a subtle boost or a dramatic close-up, Magnifier adapts to how you want to zoom. ../images/zoom.png Enter an exact percentage or jump to preset steps —5% up to 400%. Feedback: Share your thoughts in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Accessibility > Magnifier. [Accessibility] We're introducing screen tint, a new accessibility setting that applies a color overlay across your entire display, softening its intensity so it's easier on your eyes throughout the day. If bright, saturated screens leave you with tired or sensitive eyes by the end of a long session, screen tint can help. ../images/screentint.png Screenshot showing UI for screen tint in Accessibility, with color presets and a strength slider. To get started, open Settings > Accessibility (or press WIN + U) and look for screen tint under the Vision section. From there, you can: Pick from six preset colors or choose a custom color of your own. Adjust the tint strength slider from a subtle wash to full intensity. Night light warms your display to reduce blue light that can interfere with sleep. Screen tint reduces overall screen intensity to ease eye fatigue and light sensitivity during the day. They tackle different problems and you can use both at the same time, one working on warmth and the other on intensity. Note that turning on screen tint will disable color filters, and vice versa. If you currently rely on color filters, you might need to keep screen tint turned off. Feedback: Share your thoughts in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Accessibility > Narrator. [Voice Access] Voice Access now supports Portuguese (Portugal), Portuguese (Brazil), and Korean (South Korea). [Audio] Continuing our work on improving Sound Settings, we've made a few more updates in this build: We've adjusted the description text for the Allow option in properties for audio devices to include the current state of the device, to improve the clarity of the text and the purpose of the button actions. "Listen to this device" is now available in properties for audio devices, so you don't need to enter Control Panel for this functionality. [Multiple Desktops] Improved explorer reliability when switching between multiple desktops. [Storage] We've updated the dialog when creating a Dev Drive to now support specifying the size in GB instead of only MB. This has also been added when changing the size of volumes under Settings > System > Storage. [Personalization] This update improves color selection accuracy when adjusting your accent color to match your wallpaper when automatic accent color selection is enabled in Personalization settings. This update improves wallpaper persistence reliability across restarts and upgrades, including better support for large-resolution wallpapers and other scenarios to prevent solid color wallpaper fallback. [Display and Graphics] Improves the reliability and persistence of applying color profiles. You can view the official blog posts here (link1, link2, link3) on Microsoft's site.
    • Windows 11 is getting redesigned taskbar settings in new build by Taras Buria Microsoft is rolling out new Windows 11 preview builds in the Insider program, offering users new features and changes to try ahead of public release. In the Experimental channel (formerly Dev), Microsoft is shipping build 26300.8758, while in the Beta channel, users can download build 26220.8754. This extends smart card removal policy enforcement to Microsoft Entra authenticated remote sessions, helping organizations meet security and compliance requirements. [Taskbar] Improved reliability of loading the system tray area of the taskbar. [Sounds] Improved system sounds when using Windows in dark mode.
